History

(Note: all dates are in the 'traditional' Catholic time account, for universal understandability)

Mahalmara was first founded in 1473, by the Noble Stanislas Mahalaan. The Noble Lord received a vision of the goddess Pjofraziër on April 4th of 1472, revealing her and her sister Ansüa's part in the creation of the world, and the non-existence of the traditional monotheistic view of the One God. This led to a conflict between the Noble Lord and the Catholic Church in which he was a priest.

This conflict soon amounted into a bloody war, between the followers Stanislas Mahalaan gathered by his detailed and convincing account of the vision, and the eager Christians defending the faith they were so convinced was true. The war was essentially an earthly continuation of an age-old conflict between the goddesses, detailed in the section 'Religion'. After months of fighting with no outcome, Pjofraziër decided it was time for a secret she had hidden for thousands of years.

She had foreseen, in the creation of the World, that her sister would desire power above all else. Therefore, without Ansüa's knowledge of her doing so, she hid deep within the bowels of the mountains that are currently known as the Alps, a mineral with astounding powers. It was harder than any other material known to man, yet more malleable.

Pjofraziër came to Stanislas again, and told him how to achieve a small amount of this mineral, and she told him to make a sword of this new material. Stanislas of course obeyed the goddesses, leading to the sword currently known as Ansiër (pronounced 'Anshear',see the section 'The Sword' for more information about it).

Using this sword in battle led to the victory of Mahalaan's army on the third of may in 1473, followed by the founding of the state of Mahalmara. Mahalmara so has always been based on the belief of its residents in the Goddesses, and the divine power of the emperor. All was good in Mahalmara, and the emperors, the descendants of Stanislas Mahalaan, were kind and benevolent rulers.

In 1573 however, 100 years and four emperors after the founding of Mahalmara, the Catholic Church decided it was time for revenge on the Holy Empire of Mahalmara. A new Catholic army invaded the Empire on precisely the third of may, exactly 100 years after their original defeat. The Mahalmarian empire however was prepared, and the emperor at that time, Gerhardt Mahalaan, rushed to the Saffire Temple, in which the ancient Sword of Mahalmara was guarded.

To his astonishment however, he found the Templars murdered, the upmost tower locked, and the shrine of Ansiër destroyed. The sword itself was nowhere to be found. When Gerhardt rushed back to Stanroth, the imperial palace of Mahalmara, he found his wife suspended nakedly in the bedroom, her throat cut and the symbol of Ansüa cut into her chest, and his only son Mikail missing. Furious, Gerhardt joined his army already enragedly fighting the Opposers, but to no avail. Without the ancient sword of Mahalmara, the Mahalmarian troops were lost. And it is so that in one battle on the third of may of 1573 the first Mahalmarian Empire was destroyed.

In 1986 however a British boy named Michael Mayhall met a demented-looking old man, going by the name of Rafael. He revealed to the boy that his name was in fact Mikail Mahalaan, and that he was in fact the son of the ancient emperor of the Holy Empire of Mahalmara, which was at that time long gone. Rafael also revealed that he had been the first servant of Gerhardt Mahalaan at the time of the Catholic invasion, and that Pjofraziër had then informed him of the attack on the empire. She had instructed him to take Mikail to a safer location, as well in space as in time. For this purpose she created a time-flow alteration, allowing Rafael to travel to 1968 with the newly-born, to come and pick him up again in 1986, after his 18th birthday.

After a long voyage, the two found the ancient saffire temple, where they met once anew the goddess Pjofrazier, helping them to retrieve the sword, and with it restore the imperial power of Mikails blood, and restoring the empire to its once noble stature.
