The largest city in Sicinia Salis, Martinique has always thrived off of commerce. To the people who lived in the area before the Akaeian Empire, the city was named Menarates. In Akaeian times it was Marteleus, and even at that point in history it made a living as the main port in the area.
Today, thanks mainly to the presence of the Guild of Saint Christopher, it has maintained that dominance. There are more than a dozen shipyards in Martinique, building warships and merchantmen for both Sicinia and for other nations. It is here that the Sicinian navy is based, with a squadron of seven warships constantly in harbor, as well as the home port of the 4th Fleet.
