The Alexandria Class Steam Locomotive was originally designed in 1952 by the Midlonian Ministry of Transport. In November 1951, with the recent aquisition of Montmarte and New Birchester, the Haynes Government called upon the Midlonian Railway engineering companies to create an efficent steam locomotive for use in The Western Colonies. The usage of Railways in subduing and assimilating colonies has been a long standing method in the Midlonian Kingdom.

By February 1952, three companies had drawn up plans of steam locomotives that suited the Government's criteria. The companies were:
Crunn, Bannister and Crunn.
Petter and company.
Willington's Ltd.

The Three designs were promtly sent off to the infamous Rainhill testrack where one of the designs (from Crunn, Bannister and Crun) immediately exploded. The Petter and Company locomotive fared little better, barely being able to pull 60 tonnes before promptly blowing a piston, rendering it immobile.

Only the design by Willington's Limited seemed to sruvive the rigourous tests.

Many of the 2000 Alexandria class locomotives that were built are still in rigourous service, a testament to the company that built them.
