The Saidercrayan University of Camplinton in Amshlay is Saidercray's oldest and probably best university.

History

The Saidercrayan University of Camplinton was founded by a man we only know by the name Angelius in order to make future generations realize the humanist ideal of the homo universale. The university was called "Universitas Angelii et Educationis Hominum", "Angelius' University of the Education of the People". For this reason, the unviserty distinguished intself from infancy for a large variety of faculties. The university wasn't build up completely newly. Instead, the architects integrated the remains of an antique forum and surrounding buildings and preserved them from being used as a quarry. The number of students strongly increased when the industrial revolution brought the train to Saidercray. For doing justice to this, dean Howard Linton and the municipal council of Amshlay decided to build Camp Linton, a village near to the university where the students from outside Amshlay should live. This village developped to Amshlay`s suburb Camplinton. After the union of Saider and Cray, the university's name was changed. Currently, there is a movement which wants to combine the traditional and the new name. If they succeed, the university will be called "Saidercrayan University of the Education of the People".

Campus

The centre of the university is the Roman Quarter, the old university with the forum as the campus. It is surrounded by buildings with the lecture-rooms, one for each faculty. In addition to this, some other buildings can be found.

  • The "Cinatre" has been built as a theatre where plays could be performed. In 1965, the theatre was altered so that a screen can be put up between the ceiling and the bottom of the stage so that films can be shown on it.
  • A swimming bath, a gymnasium and a sports ground are used by the sports students and the university`s sports teams, but are also open to private sportsmen.
  • An observatory can be used by physics students who deal with astrology. It is also used once a week by the astrology club of Amshlay.
  • The two eagles Scio and Discio are the centre of a fountain. Until 1997, 23 colourful glass bulls swan into the water and represented the 23 faculties, but they were stolen too often. Nowadays, each ball is worked in the entry of its faculty's building.
