Jean Bemba Saolona is president of the Nationale des Entreprises du Zaire, owner of SCIBE-Zaire, and minister of commerce. He is a close financial advisor to the President, and is rumored to be the manager of Mobutu's financial fortune (while simultaneously enhancing his own). He is one of the richest men in Zaire, but despite his intimate ties with Mobutu, he often clashes with Kengo Wa Dondo, who has tried to remove Saolona's tax-exempt status. In the past, he has conducted a media campaign criticizing the government's monetary policies. Realizing that Mobutu's fall would lose him much of his wealth and prestige, he is a firm supporter of the President.
