To BazZeRg

This weapons is now in prototype testing phase. Two different types of Micro Missile launchers have thus far been created. A large version suitable for aircraft, spaceships and armour and another version for personnel use.

The larger version thus far has had little or no problems. The smaller has been suffering problems where rounds have exploded prematurely due to the smaller electronics.

The weapon is rather like a normal missile launcher however after firing the large shell splits into many smaller parts rather like a shotgun. However each individual part of the round is capable of being guided by semi-laser guidance. Also the rounds are rocket propelled meaning then have incredible penetration and any fuel that is left in the round once it hits its target combusts causing a small explosion. The explosion yield reduces with range. Exactly figures will be available after testing.

The shells are about the same size as a normal rocket for the personnel launcher but they look like plain cylinders. What you see is infact just the casing for the many Micro Missiles inside and the "first stage propellant".

Upon depressing the trigger of the weapon (with a lock or not), the first stage propellent releases the entire round out of the launcher and uses the rest of the energy to split the shell into two halves which releases the Micro Missiles. Then the Micro Missile continue forward or head towards the painted target as best they can, upon impact the missiles explode causing horrific damage. To stop missiles hitting eachother in fight they are magnetised to repel eachother so they spread evenly.

The both versions are capable of using an anti-armour round which uses less but larger micro missiles which are capable of penetrating any armour except thick MBT armour. Or an anti-personnel round which releases more but smaller missiles which can spread to devastate vast areas, the "kill zone" of the smaller version is about a 2m diameter circle and on the larger a 5m diameter circle! Anyone one person caught near the centre of the "kill zone" is going to be "swiss cheese", anyone touching the outside (depending on the area of which is hit) has about a 50% chance of survival.

The only obvious flaw of the weapon seen thus far is the size of the ammunition which is a problem for the personnel version thus far. The rounds are too large to be carried in large numbers efficiently however to fix this problem another program has started to develop an "intelligent backpack" or SmartPack which can be used to carry ammunition and feed the ammunition to the top where the firer can quickly grab a round and fire. The carrier will be able to ask what round he or she wants and the pack will bring it up in much quicker time than if the firer had to put the bag down and actively fish out a round that is needed.

As mentioned before the tests are going well for the larger version therefore we can predict another 2 months before this weapon can be actively used on the field. As for the personnel version we think another 4 months before it can be actively used.

Dr Gurt. Codename Rainbow project leader.

These weapons are now being used across the whole Friendly Alien military, mounted onto vehicles, used in base defence and are even being carried by specially trained AP troopers in the GIGA.
