The armed forces of the Confederacy of Dannistaan is known as Her Majesty's Dannistrian Armed Forces or more commonly simply the Dannistrian Armed Forces. The Joint Commanders-in-Chief are the Dannistrian Governor-General/B'ani'r-daah, the Dannistrian Prime Minister/Ti'vol B'ani'r and the Secretary of Defence. The Ministry of Defence and Central Defence Command manage the armed forces.

History

The island was previously highly dependent on garrisons from the United Kingdom based in camps scattered across the island. The first use of local warriors to defend the island was recorded in 1866, when ad hoc militias of warriors were used. This was formalised later in 1950 shortly after the events of the second world war.

Seperate State Armed Forces

Around 1959, it was decided after national Government reorganisation that each state of Dannistaan would have it's own set of armed forces, as at the time ethnic differences were too great to overcome. This meant that each state would have a seperate Army, Air Force and Navy. They would work together under an umbrella organisation called the Dannistrian Defence Command, a name that is used in a modified form today.

Volunteer Militia

Shortly after the 1982 Civil War, it was decided to disband all the states armed forces and use a system of national voluntary militia until the armed forces could be reorganised to a satisfactory position, namely by creating 3 single national armed forces. This proved to be a long process culminating in the Defence Expenditure Act 1999. It would take about 3 years to bring the plans to fruition.

Current strength

In reestablishing the armed forces of Dannistaan, it was decided to take a more unified approach. This consisted of four branches of the armed forces that was manned and managed on a national level.

The current 4 Armed Forces are:
