Frei Barrier

The Frei Barrier is a chain of islands stretching from east New Europe right to the southern tip of the New Americas, effectively seperating the Cyclopean Sea from the Decapodian Ocean.
It is believed that the forty or so islands that make up the chain are the tips of a ridge - the edge of a massive crater scientists claim was caused by a very large asteroid striking the planet roughly 70 million years ago. The impact fractured the very crust of the planet, and two major fault-lines now exist in the area - the Tschankovich Fault and the Assad-Loreno Fault. These lead to severe earthquakes from time to time as the shattered Sub-Ilkuknuis Plate infrequently moves, but buckles and vibrates as other plates move around it. The worst example of this in written history was the Hawk Islands Earthquake in the late 2030s CE (PEEL Standardised Time System|STS), where there was a great subsidence around the Tschankovich Fault - further south from the Frei Barrier - that caused dozens of islands, some heavily populated, to almost literally fall into the sea.
For much of modern history, the Barrier was dominated by two countries. The Sultan of Burgermeister ruled the Barrier north of the Assad-Loreno Fault line, and Nogo-Nogo ruled all that was south. However, in the last 20 years, great political change has led to the Barrier being ruled by four Governments. Burning Flame rules the north as the successor to Burgermeister, but as Nogo-Nogo collapsed, New European countries - Nurdbotia, Teral and Dylsexia - split the territory between them. In the collapse, Burning Flame assumed of two further islands to the south of Assad-Loreno.
