Production history

The BMP-5, introduced in 2009, is an evolution of the BMP-3 and BMP-4 produced by Russia. It is was designed and is constructed by the Ohlopkov-Galagan Design Bureau, at their main plant in Vladivostok.

Variants

  • BMP-5B: 100mm conventional smoothbore instead of 30mm chain gun.
  • BMP-5C: Turret replaced with two four-missile 9M311 launchers.
  • BMP-5D: 30mm chain gun deleted; .50-cal takes its place. Internal space expanded for battlefield hospital, holding four standardised stretchers.
  • BMP-5E: Turret replaced with extensive sensor suite for artillery support.
  • BMP-5F: Two minelayer systems mounted on rear.
  • BMP-5G: Turret deleted and replaced with 120mm mortar launcher.
  • BMP5-H: Radar and various other sensors added to the turret.
  • BMP-5I: Two tandem 9M123 Khrizantema launchers added to turret.
  • BMP-5K: Command variant; includes additional radios.
