History

Shortly after its formation, Bettia was still without a national anthem and so the government commissioned a nationwide study to find out exactly what the Bettian people would want in a tune to represent them. By far the most popular response was that it should be jaunty and uplifting, the sort of song that could be sung with plenty of gusto before a major sporting occasion.

With this in mind, the songwriter Arthur Nasser Hamid was entrusted with the task of producing Bettia's anthem. In an interview for The Enlightener newspaper, he said:

"I wanted to produce something that embodied our love and commitment to sport, as it is sport which menas the most to our people."

Lyrics

Oh Brothers of Bettia
Be proud of your land, this Blessed Realm.
Be true to your God, and to yourselves
And all evil we shall overwealm!

Bettia, strong foes but stronger friends
Our freedom we shall defend
Oh Brothers of Bettia
Be proud of this Blessed Realm.

Our mighty Aroras,
Opponents stand in awe,
Green and gold
Are the colours of our flag
Our faith is ever
Solid to the core,
We'll never give up
And our spirits never sag

On the field of play
Or on the field of war
Don't let your nation down
Be firm and stand tall

Our enemies may scorn us
So rise up and join us
Cry out as one! BETTIA! BETTIA!
