Āþ-Dorista is a Baranxtuan province. It was separated from Āŋ-Dorista in 1989 due to their vastly different economy - Āþ-Dorista's economy is largely based on industry, whereas Āŋ-Dorista's is more based on tourism. As a matter of fact, Āþ-Dorista is one of the centers of the Western Industrial Belt.

Name

The name Dorista is probably derived from the Akes Mersanint phrase doonis siafjan (/"dO.o.nis "saf.jan/), meaning land of the Daun people; the Daun being the most influential tribe in the area.

Maps from the late 16th century call all the lands west of the Baranxtuan settlements 'Dorisafja'. Later on, the northern peninsula was called the 'Abasina' and the southern peninsula the 'Qirina'.

By then, the area inbetween was called Dorisata (the t emerged after a sound change in Akes Mersanint that shifted the /fj/ to /f_j/ and finally, /t/), and it was only a short way to Dorista, wich first appeared in this form in 1785.

Āþ-Dorista, in turn, simply means North Dorista.

The background of Āþ-Dorista is based on the older flag of Dorista. The yellow stripe on top stands for the sun, the green stripe on the bottom for the earth. The blue stripe originally stood for both the sky and the ocean; in the case of Āþ-Dorista, it now specifically symbolized the sea.

The logo in center is a stylized depiction of the sun setting over the sea.
