Āŋ-Neila is a province of Baranxtu. It is partly rural, and partly industrial - especially in the north.

Most inhabitants are of Asuanituan descent.

Name

Āŋ-Neila is Baranxeï for South Neila, distinguishing the province from Āþ-Neila, from which it was formally split in 1860.

Neila, in turn, is derived from Nei, the capital of the region, and the suffix -la, which can roughly be translated to hillocks of .... The suffix -la ultimately comes from the Proto-Ilatemaian *erna (hill) which also produced other suffixes only used found in toponymic background, like -na/-ma (meaning hills of ...).

Nei itself is derived from the Akes Mersanint word ea nehij, meaning Green City on the Hill.

The name Neila originally referred to the rural area around the native city state of Nei. It later became the name Baranxtuans gave to the indigenous union led by Nei, which covered what later became the Baranxtuan province of the same name, Neila.

Āŋ-Neila therefore literally means Southern Hills around the Green City on the Hill.

The flag of Āŋ-Neila was adopted by the South Neilan parliament in 1960. It was the chosen winner of a flag design contest. According to the description, the blue stripe stands for the intelligence of its population, the white stripe for their purity, the green stripe for the harmony of the different cultures. The black stripe in the middle stands for the fertility of the province's soil.
