.342 Longbolt
The .342 Longbolt, aka .342 Long and 8mm TPM, 8.69mm round was developed by Phoenix Dynamix specifically for the SR-23 Sniper Rifle. The unusual length of the cartridge and the bullet itself, (just under 116mm) drew much skepticism from the military but it was eventually adopted for special operations forces. The round was selected after extensive testing of every known rifle caliber from .30-06 up to the 20mm Hispano. In the end the 8.69x116mm was devised to make up for the shortcoming of existing rounds and it outperformed all previously tested rounds in Phoenix Dynamix labs. The SR-23, a straight-pull bolt action rifle, and its semi-automatic cousin the SR-23A1 Tactical Sniper System are among the longest-ranged and most accurate sniper rifles in the world. At this time only the SR-23 series uses this round officially, although unauthorized commercial knockoffs of the SR-23, have popped up throughout TPM and a number of gun enthusiasts have re-chambered personal hunting rifles for the round. It should be noted however that very few rifles can actually be modified successfully to fire the .342 Longbolt, since it is such an unusual caliber. Phoenix Dynamix tried to modify the SR-20/15/14(NTW-20 conversion) to fire the round but were unsuccessful.
