In June 2007, the Emirate of Abu Omar host the 1st Abu Omar Camel World Cup (Arabic: الاول ابو عمر الهجن كأس العالم), which is to be held at the exclusive Camel Club Arena in Ajaman.

A Bedouin Tradition

Camel racing has been a traditional desert sport of Bedouin tribes for many centuries, especially in Abu Omar. In the past the race would involve thousands of camels speeding across the open desert. Today the races are held at specific camel racing circuits all over Abu Omar and the most exclusive being the Camel Club Arena in Ajaman.

Camel Club Arena, Ajaman

The amazing Camel Club Arena was built in 1991 under the direct request of Sultan Mohammed ibn Al-Quuadi. The circuit and stadium came to a staggering price of £350,000,000 and the result is a first class arena with a stadium capacity of 80,000 and space for a further 500,000 spectators.

The record capacity at the Camel Club Arena was on the 4th of August 2000 for the Sultan Cup, in which over 380,000 spectators turned out for the final day of racing.
