Activity to date

Three sets of pre-season predictions were released; the first, on February 14, 2146, was released by the Lox Land Island Weather Observatory, and called for 15 tropical storms, 7 hurricanes and 2 major hurricanes. The official preseason forecast from the Liverpool England Met Service's Hurricane Prediction Centre, issued on March 25, called for 17 tropical storms, of which 10 would be hurricanes and three would break the Category 3 mark. The final pre-season forecast was released a day later released by experts at the Orean College of Meteorology in Orean. It prescribed a less-than-average season, calling for 14 tropical storms, 8 hurricanes and 2 major hurricanes. In late April, new forecasts were issued for the season. Both the MSHPC and CMO forecast a higher number of major hurricanes then previously predicted. However, the MSHPC lowered the number of expected hurricanes by one.

Storm names

Official MSHPC list

Storms are named from a list contributed to by nations within the Liverpool England Area of Responsibility. 13 nations submitted names for the 2146 season. Only storms of tropical storm strength get named; if the 13 names run out, the list reverts to the old pre-2140 naming scheme. Some nations and continents maintain a separate list of local names for storms.

Storm names in black are unused; brown means they have been used for the season.

Retirement

Names are retired for strong negative connotations due to damage, deaths caused or political sensitivity. Names retired will be decided on in December 2146.

Six names from 2145 were retired, three due to deaths and damage, and three for other reasons. Veiru, Yuri and Griel were retired for the damage they caused to Dashake, PopularFreedom and Vassfforcia respectively, while Abaddon, Oren and Mirscqy were retired for miscellaneous reasons.

Unofficial LLIWO TCWC list

In March 2145, the MSHPC appointed the Lox Land Island Weather Observatory as a tropical cyclone warning centre for all cyclones within a 400-km radius of the island, and allowed it to warn on systems and name them as it saw fit, as long as the names did not clash with the official name list. The chosen names were from the Greek and Phoenician alphabets. This list will repeat from "Alpha" as soon as "Daleth" is used. Names are used sequentially. If there are more than 10 storms warned on by the TCWC, the storms would be named backwards, i.e. Storm #11 would be named "Ahpla", storm #12 "Ateb", storm #13 "Ammag", et cetera.
