The Imperial Republic quickly realised that it could not face this new enemy and hope to win. With the very foundations of the republic at threat, and with no hope of victory in sight. The Imperial Council formally requested the Emperor be sent into hiding. His most Benevolent Majesty, Emperor Nekau II declined and set out to retake his republic. Utilizing his Custodian Guard and the additional support of the Kai’s Protectorate Guard, the most experienced warriors in Askira for the last two millennia, the Emperor launched two offensive campaigns against the British Viceroy in charge, Edward W. Davis, at his stronghold of the Imperial Palace in Theed. The ensuing conflict was atrocious and brutal in nature. No one had expected such losses, on both sides. Over 1,000,000 Askira and 600,000 British dead by 1652. However, by the turn of 1653 the fighting had come to a stalemate. Neither side could gain territory against each other. It is duly noted that the British forces fought with courage and great valor; nevertheless, they could not overcome the spirit and determination of an oppressed people. On the night of June 15th 1653, a last ditch attempt by the ever deteriorating old Imperial Forces, led by Emperor Nekau II, assaulted the enemy occupied Imperial Palace in Theed. All through the night both sides battled. Many lives where lost equally. Then all of a sudden the glistening morning light of the sun rose as the battled hastened forward. Imperial Forces raced through the palace and entered the Imperial Throne Room where Davis held his power. At the assaults peak only a handful of Custodian Guard remained by the Emperor’s side as he fought against Davis and his commanders. Records tell of a glorious battle between the two. Both masters of combat. They also tell of the battle cry of His Majesty before he crippled Davis with a blow from his Honor Blade; “This occupation will END this day!” With the back of the British forces defeated, general retreat was ordered. All British forces where allowed to depart Askira unhindered and so ended nearly half a century of foreign occupation on Askiran soil.
