The Aacken Military

Aacken has traditionally been a rather militaristic planet, with several major wars during the modern period leading to its unification as a planet in 2312. Examples of these conflicts include the Acerron-Garunar War from 2230-2234, The Neesian Sea Wars from 2248-9 and 2253-6, as well as two very large wars, the Global War from 2280-2291 and the War of Unity from 2307-2312.

It is precisely because of this that now, in 2380, Aacken has already a very developed military.

The Army

The Army form the basis of any attack on a planet by the Aacken Armed Forces (AAF). AAF infantry is very well equipped, and have cutting edge terran weapons and equipment, as well as a variety of vehicles available to them. There follows a series of short descriptions of various aspects of the AAF Army (or AGF).

The Infantry

The Infantry are the main part of the army, and are equipped with a V58X ‘Tornado’ Assault rifle, a V11 ‘Hale’ Pistol and a ‘Lightning’ Comms Unit as standard, as well as a ‘Thunder’ helmet.AD97‘Stormcloud’ Anti-Armour rocket launchers are given to Anti-Armour troopers, VA89A Sniper Rifles to Snipers and Recon Rangers, VX5 ‘Twister’ Machine Guns are given to Support Gunners as well as being mounted on vehicles. Special weapons include the P80A Shotgun, the C11X Submachine Gun, and the Quad Barrelled X12 Anti-Emplacement Machine Gun, which is normally vehicle mounted, but can be used by soldiers in exceptional circumstances. Infantry are used in large numbers to take control of and guard valuable resource areas, mop up resistance, board enemy space vessels and to seek and destroy other infantrymen, armoured vehicles and general ground assets.

Armour

Armour includes ‘all that moves on the land that hasn’t got organic legs’. The main focus of the Armour is twofold; to destroy enemy armour whilst simultaneously enabling Infantry to move to battle in safety. Armour is also used in a supporting role in major urban confrontations or fights for fuel refineries or metal mines. The main armoured vehicle of the AAF is the GA135A ‘Wolfhound’ Tank. This is supported by the GAR85 ‘Howler’ Recon Vehicle. For Infantry, there are three vehicles; the GA/10R 'Panther' Armoured Fighting Vehicle, which was based around the ‘Howler’, the GA/20 'Leopard' Armoured Personnel Carrier, or the GT-40 Utility Vehicle, which moves both supplies and personnel. There are also several variants to the above vehicles.

Army AirCav

AirCav comprises the close air support and air transport needs of the army. The AirCav deploy, support and extract light infantry with a variety of aircraft. The main transport aircraft is the ACT-20 ‘Falcon’ Dropship, which fulfils the mid-range needs of most missions. Larger is the ACT-60 ‘Eagle’ Dropship, which is heavier, slower and less of a frontline aircraft. In addition to these mainstream vehicles, there are several more specialist transporters, such as the AST-8 ‘Viper’ SpecOps Dropship, the LAT/T Transport Hoverplane, and the AS/R Recon Hoverplane. Vehicles designed purely to assist Infantry forces include the AS/C ‘Hawk’ Multipurpose Hunter-Killer, the AS/GAC ‘Vulture’ Armour Hunter, and modified ACT-20s which act as gunships, the AS/CT-8 ‘Buzzard’.

Army Sea Corps

The Sea is largely unused in interplanetary conflicts, but surprise attacks can still be made using it. To this end, the AAF utilises several Repulsorcraft that can engage in sea transport or combat. The main vehicle is the ORT-80 ‘Hammerhead’ combat transport. This is ably supplemented by the larger ORT/A-130 ‘Bull’, and the smaller ORS/T ‘Tiger’ craft.

The SpaceFleet, or Aacken Space Armada (ASA)

The ASA is the primary means of colonising, bombarding and conquering worlds. It combines Combat and colonisation arms with exploration craft and AGF Transporters.
