The Act of Union 2006 established the United Kingdom of Oceania through the merger into a political union of the Royal Crown Colony of Novikov with the United Kingdom of Azazia, Juristan, Kingsland, and the Indian Islands, wherein the republics of the former United Kingdom of Azazia, Juristan, Kingsland and the Indian Islands became full-fledged constituent countries legally termed as Home Countries and the Royal Crown Colony of Novikov achieved a new status as a Home Country and was therefore integrated into the new political union.

With a population nearing 8 billion individuals, Prime Minister Lord Salisbury introduced into the Act the new term Oceania, in reference to the geographical location of most Home Countries within the Pacific Ocean as well as the distinct units being bonded together through that same ocean. The use of the term Oceania and its derived adjective Oceanian also served a useful political purpose in downplaying regionalism and nationalism and promoting a new national identity.

One of the most major political ramifications, still ongoing as of November 2006, is the expansion of Parliament into a legislative body inclusive of not just the former United Kingdom but the new Home Country of Novikov. The requisite series of by-elections, organised to occur in stages, is expected to be completed by early 2007 at which time it is expected Lord Salisbury will request the Sovereign dissolve Parliament for a general election.
