Ad hoc

Ad hoc is a term used to describe a temporary solution or quickly organized group that is created to solve a specific problem. In NationStates the term is often used in the United Nations to describe the temporary committees that are formed by representatives of nations in order to discuss draft proposals. Typically very few nations send representatives to actually provide constructive advise on proposals, while a handful of other nations are very active in the draft proposal discussion process.

The ad hoc committees that are formed to help build better UN proposals typically dissolve once a proposal has established a quorum of UN Delegate approvals. However, the traditional practice in the UN debates is to actually continue the official UN debate starting with the same thread of discussion used by the ad hoc committees. There are exceptions to this practice, when a sponsoring nation requests that a new debate thread be held. This is done in order to separate the debate of the resolution from points raised in earlier drafts or when a resolution sponsor wishes to attach an official poll to the UN debate.
