Rules of the Road

The Federal Republic of Aerigia drives on the right side of the road, similar to the real world [[Wikipedia:USA|], Canada and Germany. The road signs and signals, however, closely follows the international standards and tries to avoid "Word-based" signs. To drive on Aerigian roads, the driver must be at least 16 years of age and pass a series of tests: The written test, administered by computers, is given at the Traffic Office or Authorized Driving Schools for a fee of 30 Mon. It covers rules, signs, regulations, vocabulary, theory and energy preservation and is about 50-75 questions. The minimum passing mark is 70%. An eye test is also administered. Applicants must also complete certified courses and exams covering vehicular physics as well as first aid.

After the written test, applicants are required to complete 40 hours of practical lessons with a professional driving school. It involves lessons on special closed-circuit practice zones, as well as on-road/highway classes. The practical and final test is administered by the driving school (authorized), and includes driving in the city, country and expressways. Once this is passed, the liscence is good for any Aerigian roads, given that the yearly renewal fees of 300 Mon is paid.

Aerigian Highways and Roads

Aerigian public roads and highways are categorized into four main categories, in increases in traffic volume:

1)Municipal Roads: These are the common roads and streets in cities, towns and townships. They are usually located inside the built up areas of the municipality in charge of them. No tolls are required.

2)Regional/County Roads/Highways: These roads are usually wider abd have higher traffic flow than municipal roads, they usually serve as connections between the cities in the region or county. No tolls are required.

3)Provincial Highways: Roads that cross regional boundaries within an Aerigian province. Tolls are usually not required.

4)Federal Highways: Federal highways are cross country routes built for high speed travel similar to the autobahns of Germany. They do run inside urban areas, where they are similar to provincial highways. Tolls are required on the intercity or rural stretches of Federal highways.

Tolls for roads are paid by electronic toll collection (ETC), via liscence plate recognition of the vehicle. With the adoptation of Heartland-wide liscence plates, and a Heartland-wide toll billing system, it makes travel on Aerigian highways simple.
