Aetherios, one of the first three nations to be settled in Noxidom, is known as the most mysterious. When Navras, Luxiom and Aetherios separated, Aetherios went travelling and claimed the land east of the river Alita, which now guides the border with Valenvaryon and Luxiom. The capital city, Spectral, is the political centre of Aetherios. In the early years of government, domestic politics were argued at a large stone building in the city centre, known as the Spectral Citadel. Although now a major landmark mostly open to the public, international dignitaries are taken there for discussion of bi-lateral agreements. The Aetherian code of laws that were implemented from soon after the capital’s founding became part of the nation’s identity. Many nations have recognised this and consider Aetherios to be a harsh but fair, and worthy of the position of regional UN delegate. The geography of Aetherios is highly varied. Because of the high value that has been placed on environmental issues, the picturesque rainforests and beaches, idyllic mountains and plains that can be found in Aetherios have been well preserved through from their early beginnings. The key discipline of Aetherios is knowledge. This is reflected in the amount of focus education receives. A side effect is that main sector of Information Technology, a highly skilled commodity that has been used in international trade deals. Aetherios, while not a highly spiritual nation, has three major deities. While the Three Fates are traditionally linked with an unchangeable course of action, or “destiny”, however Aetherians pray to them for guidance and knowledge. A typical Aetherios reflection is as follows:

I pray to Clotho, of the past, so that I may learn from hindsight.

I pray to Lachesis, of the present, so that I might act today with insight.

I pray to Atropos, of the future, that I approach tomorrow with foresight.

A major temple to the Fates can be found on the Windswept Isle, the largest island off the coast of Aetherios. The head of state in Aetherios is The First Visionary. This position is unique in the region as it is neither inherited nor elected. Instead, national examinations are held to determine the decision making skills of all those that apply. A short list of candidates is eventually made by a high council (10, elected positions), and the current First Visionary selects his or her successor. The other candidates are each then apprenticed to a member of the high council, usually (though not always) succeeding them. The position of First Visionary is also unique in that it requires the holder to “lose” their previous identity, including their name. They are then only to be addressed as First Visionary; this symbolically shows that their first duty is to the nation of Aetherios. They may resume their previous identity when they finish their term, which is when they choose to leave it, or the council deems them unfit.
