Alranar
The Republic of Alranar is a very large, environmentally stunning nation situated of the coast of western Canada. The country is an atheistic paradise where education and healthcare are free, and a large portion of the tax payers money goes into science and technology. Currently the government is controlled by 3 large corporations which are Verra Corp., Altech, and Geovex. The current leader is President Johnathan Allir who was elected in 2004 by popular vote. ContentsHistoryEarly HistoryAlranar was originally settled by the Allowa Indians around 12,000 years ago during the Great Ice Age. They lived there peacefully for quite sometime until the American expansionists came in 1840. Michael Boone founded the colony of Alranar in 1843 on the northern shores, but at the time America was going through problems of its own involving the south. Alranar was later recognized as its own nation out of this in that time, and sought annexation to the United States, but America decided to choose Texas over Alranar for unknown reasons. Red BlockadeIn 1947 after the events of WWII, the USSR attempted to occupy Alranar. This became knows as the Red Blockade. During this time, Alranar was still a growing nation, but the Soviet navy blocked all major ports in an effort to cease the nations economy. In the end it was ultimately a failure which wound up costing the Soviets millions of dollars. Alranar was able to hold its own for 3 years before the USSR finally backed away, but out of this came the need for a stronger national defense system that would enable the island nation to defend itself from future threats, so the Alranar National Defense Initiative (ANDI) was created. PoliticsAlranar was loosely founded on the American Constitution as its former primordial government. However, in 1931 during the depression, people were fed up with the current economic system that was laid out and they felt that the government was responsible. Nathan Villison was a reactionary who wanted change in the government, so he decided to create a system similar to the Parliament system in Europe. To much of his success the public accepted this, and the system became known as the Alranar Government. It was a three party system based on the economic state of the country. Corporations were allowed to control the government through buying politicians for their own agenda, but the system is set up so that if the corporations mistreat the public or are unfair (determined by vote) they have to pay large sums of money and remove their person from the seat. Even though the corporations control the government from a leader standpoint, the people are the ones that control everything. EconomicsEconomic HistoryAlranar started out as a nation that was known for exporting fine quality wood and iron ore, but as technology began advancing in the late 1800's, the nation quickly took hold of the changes that were being made. Alranar began producing machinery that was used for mining mainly, but other markets also began appearing as well. In 1883, Giffith & Son was created, which was the primary manufacturer of construction, farming, and mining equipment. Economic prosperity flourished in Alranar, and for 40 years Alranar was in a golden age of economic growth. Things took a dive however in the Stock Market Crash of 1929 and a lot of money was lost that was invested. However, after WWII had ended Alranar took advantage of the world stage and began selling again as well as buying some very intelligent scientists from America and Germany at the time. Altech was founded in 1946 as a result of the scientists, and Verron Telecommunications emerged as well with the surge of technology. In 1952 Griffith & Son became known as Geovex. William Heryx was an inventor who really shifted the nations economy from manufacturing machinery to technology as he was an important inventor known for the first nuclear fusion power plant. This enabled the government to allocate taxes to fund research in both medicine and technology. Currently Alranar is on par with Japan in terms of a technological standpoint, and will one day far surpass them. Present Economic StateCurrently Alranar is a capitalistic paradise where free enterprise literally controls the country. Monopolies are allowed here despite this, and the three largest are Altech, Geovex, and Verra Corp. Altech is responsible for the production of consumer electronics and the leader in medicine. Geovex is the leader in machine and automobile manufacturing. Verra Corp. is responsible for telecommunications and power generation. Together, all three of these conglomerates contribute to the nations economy immensely. Right now, Alranar is the lead producer in electronics, pharmaceuticals, ballistics, and machinery for various major industries. No raw materials are exported, only imported, to ensure that Alranar stays on top of the market. |
