History

Alyawulof is a nation built upon a land inherited from an ancient kingdom, Rihaskiy. The Rihaskiy emperors built numerous lavish palaces in the area upon which the capital Kroyonstaty was built; many of these palaces now serve as government offices and ministries. In fact, the Senate House today was originally the palace of Luz'hakrysto, the last emperor of Rihaskiy and a despotic tyrant.

Alyawulof's beginnings lay in civil revolution. Since C.E. 250 the area now governed by Alyawulof had been under the sovereignty of the oppressive Rihaskiy emperors. In C.E. 523 the first stirrings of unhappiness was demonstrated by a mob that tried to break through the gates of Luz'hakrysto's palace. The mob was taken down by a group of archers hastily sent to the spot. By then, however, civil stability in the country had been shaken considerably. The citizens began to grow more disgruntled and riots began to occur more frequently. A revolutionary order, the Order of the Dew of Dulmya (often referred to in short as the Dulmya Order), was secretly organised. They planted one of its own members as a slave in the palace of Luz'hakrysto, who, much to the shock of the emperor and his court, led a revolution from inside. This revolution, known as the Revolution of the Sun, lasted for two weeks while the Order proceeded to all parts of the country to clear out any corrupt warlords and officials from the previous reign. The revolution threw the country into temporary political array until two weeks later when the Dulmya Order had successfully dispatched its strongest members evenly to all parts of the country to restore peace and order and to set the new government into motion. The Dulmya Order renamed the nation from Rihaskiy to Alyawulof, a name meaning "golden tree" (alya = golden; wulof = tree; this name was based upon the Dulmya tree, a tree that according to legend grew at the centre of heaven and which grew leaves of gold and silver).

Mythology

The Dulmya Tree

The Dulmya Tree is an important symbol in Alyawulfian culture. The Dulmya Tree, according to Alyawulfian myth, was the first living thing ever. Its leaves were of silver and gold; the first flower ever to bloom on the Tree fell to Earth to become the first man; and only two fruits were ever borne on the Tree, one of which was golden and became the sun and the other which was silver and became the moon. In mythology the Dulmya Tree features prominently; aside from being the source of the first man and the Tree upon which the Sun-fruit and Moon-fruit hang, it is also the spot where, according to apocalyptic myth, the warrior God Tyeheln would be slain and his blood spilt upon its roots. The myth purports that the blood will fertilise the Tree and cause it to flower once more. The flowers would come to fruit, falling upon the ground and splitting to form humankind once more.
