Background - The Fall Of A Superpower

America - The Decline (1991-1999-)

After the official end of the Cold War with the Soviet Union in August of 1991, and the turn of the Soviet Union into a democracy the United States had only one other realistic threat left in the world, which was the People's Republic of China. The United States sought to maintain its superpower status by intervening in a series of international conflicts acting on behalf of the United Nations to garner support for their military ventures.

During this time several states within the United States began voicing their own political agendas and eventually splitting off to form their own nation-states independent from the United States. The two nationstates that seperated from the United States during the 1990's were the Federal Republic of New York and New Jersey (in 1992) and the Californian Federation (in 1999) respectively.

Economy

Economic Overview: Since the 1990's the United States has made attempts at maintaining its position throughout the world economically, however with the secession of states forming the Californian Federation and the Federal Republic of New York and Jersey the United States ended up losing the states of California, Washington, Oregon, Texas, Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey which cost it a large portion of its economic power dropping its purchasing power parity from $85 billion to roughly $60 billion after California and the states that formed their federation declared independence.

Since then the United States has made sine inroads to an economic recovery through trading with Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Exports and imports of raw materials, metals, automobiles & electronics, agriculture, foodstuffs, textiles and medicines has began a rise not seen since the late 1980's causing the steady but slow growth of the American economy as one of the first world powers of the North American continent.
