Signore Andreos Samothrakidis (born 2nd January, 1948 in Antemegara, Fentomeria, Pacitalia), was a declared candidate for leadership of the Federation of Progressive Democrats, who held a convention on 10th December, 2006 to elect their new leader. As one of three candidates vying for the leadership, and being the least popular throughout the race (based on opinion polls), Samothrakidis earned the least number of delegates at selection meetings and was eliminated on the first ballot.
Samothrakidis is the former chair of the Council of Religious Pacitalians, a primarily Catholic christian-democratic lobby group to the federal government. He held that position from 1998 until 2005. Before that Samothrakidis taught religious studies and ancient Greek history at the University of Eastern Liguria in San Marchese between 1983 and 1996.
Samothrakidis has long advocated an increase in moral principles in the day-to-day operations of the federal government, and says his leadership of the FPD will bring about a new age of Christian democracy (1).
