Angranakh

Overview

The Angranakh (Tharell for Iron Flame) is a mountain range in the Neutral Republic of Ayrwll, dividing the southeastern province of Datrien and the northeastern province Northern Reaches.

Angranakh is host to two isolationist nations, Azran'Loch'Yloth of the Drow, and Shassat-Uss of the Slithzerikai. These nations collectively form the Pact of Greydelving, which is occasionally called the "Sixth Province" of Ayrwll. This province is an enclave within the province of Datrien.

The Angranakh mountains were originally called Telladar.

History

Pre-Colonial

Explorers reach the foot of the mountain range from the South. They call the mountains Telladar, after the great mountain range of their home country, Atharellia.

Colonial

• Zilassyl 59, 87 AC

The first Drow ship arrives in the port of Dawn's Landing. The Drow almost immediately set out to search the mountain range for a suitable cave system to dwell in.

• Mossenur 1, 89 AC

The Drow Queendom of Zreach'darn'Cathul is founded under Queen Ylothan. It gains individual status as a colony in the Conglomerate, but is tributary to the Colonial Council in name only (though they pay a small tax).

With the further excavation of the caves of Zreach'darn'Cathul (soon referred to by others as Zreach), the capital of Azran'Loch'Yloth is founded. Only days later, a Slithzerikai ship arrives in Ayrwll, and the Sliths, favouring subterranean habitats as well, follow the Drow to the Telladar.

The Slithzerikai Theocracy of Shassat-Uss is founded in a cave at some distance to Ylothraz. Within the same year, they forge what is to become known as the Alliance of Greydelving, or 'Cassat-Dussr-Thss' among Sliths, or Zreach'myr'Axanth among Drow. This includes a pact of mutual defense, free trade, and free exchange of technology. The two nations under the Telladar, though distinctly separate, are from now on referred to collectively as Greydelving.

Queen Ylothan and High Priest Thsss-Nass simultaneously declare sovereignty and independency from the Colonial Conglomerate. The Pact of Greydelving remains intact, and the alliance is, if anything, reinforced by its independency from the rest of the nation.

The name Telladar falls into disuse, and the mountains are now named Angranakh, a Tharell translation of the Drow name Zreach'Cthul'Ythain. The Colonial Council acknowledges this change, though many of the elves of Nyrmal continue to refer to the mountains as the Telladar to the present day.

As Civil War breaks out in the colonies, Greydelving isolates itself and declares neutrality. No nation even considers invading the caves (both the Drow and the Sliths have mastered the skill of fighting Underground), and likewise do the nations of Greydelving refrain from attacking the rest of the colonies.
