OVERVIEW

The Arcadian Federation is a Human controlled democratic nation. Although the majority of it citizens support the government, frontier worlds rail against what they call a suffocating power. Many outside nations have no clue of the existence of the federation, those that do consider the Federation inferior as it has not discovered much technologically.

LOCATION

All planets inside the federation are located inside a tight group on a distant arm of the spiral galaxy called Mjolnir.

The location of the Federation is considered the most important secret to national security. Even close allies are only informed of the most distant military outposts.

PLANETS

The homeworld and center of government is Avalon. Ten other habitable planets make up the Federation, the latter four are considered the outer colonies. The four outer planets often are the source of rebellion in the Federation.

A planet sized moon is also controlled by the federation in addtion to the other 11. This planet is never mentioned in all but the most topsecret documents. Knowledge of the planet is tightly controlled and mentioning its name or anything about it is considered treason. This planet is the only world that has ever been revealed to an alien species, it is incredibly distant from any other Federation world.

GOVERMENT

The government is known as the United Nations Civil Administration, it is in charge of all aspects of the nation. Democratic in nature it is lead by a president and supplemented by a house of represenatives. The people directly elect citizens into seats of power.

The Administration keeps meticulous records of everything on its worlds. Trade and colonization are strictly regulated by officials.

MILITARY

Known as the United Nations Space Command or UNSC. The Command is directly under the UNCA (see above) and is in charge of defending all planets and people within the Federation. The UNSC has to deal with a major technological disadvantage, its ships and equipment are sometimes centuries behind species. To cope the UNSC has become very creative with ways of defending their planets, mainly by hiding their location in the first place.

The UNSC houses the divisions of The Army, and Office of Naval Intelligence, and the United Nations Space Command Defense Force. Separated into three major sections. It is commanded by HIGHCOM, a group of high ranking officers that form a ruling council.

  • The United Nations Space Command Defense Force- They are commonly seen defending planets. Originally designed to keep the peace between neighboring planets and star systems, when certain rebellious factions began to rise in the late 2510s the UNSCDF was forced to police its colonies to keep privateers, and pirates from raiding them. It is commanded by the fleet admiral who answers to HIGHCOM.
  • The Department of the Army- All ground forces, commonly seen onboard all UNSC ships.
  • The Office Of Strategic Intelligence- The Office of Strategic Intelligence (or OSI) is the intelligence arm of the United Nations Space Command. OSI, though technically part of the UNSC Military forces, seems to answer directly to HIGHCOM. Its emblem reads "Semper Vigilans," which is Latin for "Ever Vigilant." Many of its functions and subdivisions, are enigmatic, and its personnel are regarded as mysteries to mainline military officers, who often refer to OSI personnel as "spooks". OSI are also in charge of all contact with alien races, their GHOST fleet are the only ships authorized to leave UNSC space.

TECHNOLOGY

The Federation is behind in many areas compared to other nations. Shield technology is still a mystery to scientists, as well as energy weapons. The Federation depends on heavy armor and chemical, and magnetic weapons. Fissile material is also often used to inflict large scale damage.

Almost all UNSC capital ships are equipped with large Magnetic Accelerator Cannons, which serve as their primary weapons. All Magnetic Accelerator Cannons are built into the structure of a ship or weapons platform. Thus, to aim the cannon, the ship or the platform must maneuver to be facing the target. Both shipboard and platform versions generally require an AI to aim the cannon, as the slugs fired are unguided. Even taking into account the high speed of the shots and the supreme accuracy with which an AI can aim them, they are highly inaccurate as battles usually take place across 100,000 km or more, allowing vessels to dodge them. They can however smash through most shields in one shot and the vessel in the next, although it takes minutes to recharge the capacitors after each shot.
