Overview
Despite its rich history, Areth remains isolationist. Its citizens are severely oppressed and its leader always hidden in the shadows. Areth devotes much of its time and economy to throwing keg parties in FurNation. All decisions made for Areth are based on the novels Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, 1984 by George Orwell, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, and Equilibrium, a low-budget rip-off of The Matrix.
The primary goal of Areth is complete and total oppression of every square inch of the nation. Every animal, mineral, and vegetable is to be owned and controlled by the Arethian government. Some nations have claimed that this is impossible, but Areth is ignoring those comments and intends to scoff at all naysayers.
Aside from the ocassional keg party, Areth avoids foreign relations as much as possible.

History
The Beginning
Areth began as a single tree growing in the middle of the ocean on a small island. There it remained for millions of years, growing taller and taller until it was knocked down by a large boat. The trunk of the tree floated away and ended up in the backyard of a young man who decided to carve the trunk into a boat. As luck would have it, the boat crashed onto the small island, and the man decided to build a new society there. Another bit of luck struck the nation when a volcano beneath the island erupted, expanding its land surface thousands of miles, all floating on the ocean.
The first years of Areth were spent transforming it from a desolate wasteland to a massive ecological miracle. For a time, Areth was a beautiful land full of animals and rare plants. But then it turned out that the leader was republican. Areth quickly transformed into a large factory, boosting the economy but destroying the ecology.
Now Areth is a nation devoted to oppression. No one escapes. No one.
The Last 20 Years
Up until 1980, Areth devoted much of its time to freedom, nearly achieving anarchy. However, in 1980, the Arethian President became the Arethian Dictator, creating massive riots in every major city. The protesters were shot on sight and then washed away with powerful fire hoses. The survivors of the incidents were later tracked down and executed, and their families removed from the nation. Citizens are now paid to find information about traitors or artists. Possessions of citizens quickly became the property of the Areth Government, which is owned and controlled by the dictator in the shadows.
Recent History
Areth did not begin in FurNation. In fact, due to its unique ability to float on the ocean, Areth has moved many times. The moves were usually a result of lack of participation from other nations in the region. FurNation, however, proved to be a very active region, but never attempted to force the Arethian dictator to do anything, allowing the shadowy dictator to do as he or she pleased.
Areth was also once a member of the United Nations, but due to drastic changes and votes that went against the oppressive nature of Areth, the nation was removed and vowed never to return. The nation is very anti-United Nations, but has never acted against the organization. It has, several times, spoken out against the UN, but few listened.
The most recent event as of March 23, 2005, was Areth's pointless protest against misguided humans when they attacked Areth's home region, FurNation. By the time Areth had spoken, the nations responsible for the invasion were punished accordingly, making the protest completely obsolete. Since then, the nation has received several telegrams explaining the punishment in detail.
General Information
The Lemming
The lemming is Areth's official animal. Arethian Lemmings are much different than lemmings in other parts of the world. Though they are a rare species, due to the nation's love for eating them, Arethian Lemmings are large and often venomous. Most of them walk on all four legs, but the bipedal ones are capable of eating small children, making them a hazard in most parts of Areth. The rest of the world has another name for the Arethian Lemming: the "beggar" or "homeless person."
Do not go near these lemmings. They will attack you or try to steal your money.
The Aero
Created in protest for another form of currency that was forced by a former region, the Aero is worth next to nothing. Most citizens of Areth have resorted to bartering, but several small factions have been trying to increase the value of the Aero by eliminating billions of bills, but they are often captured and hung by order of the dictator.
