Arnoldus Jacobsz. DeVrient was a Knootian explorer who was born in 1559 in Amsterdam. Son a rich bloodline of merchants and distant relatives with the ruling nobility, Arnoldus wanted to see more of the world. Especially when he heard of that distant continent called America far away, and then there were more tales, one more fantastic than the last, about foreign wild nations. He wanted to go there, smell the air, feel the sand beneath his feet; he wanted to see more of the world as a whole. Arnoldus was a born explorer. After he studied medicine and theology at the university of Leiden, he graduated in 1581 cum laude.

From there his life turns a bit vague, and he re-appears in history books around 1610. The Knootian VOC was founded 8 years earlier but he was sailing under their flag despite not being a member. He was eager to prove his qualities as a captain and navigator and sailed towards the new continent (Guffingford) a Scot discovered roughly 30 years before him. He came ashore in the south western section of that amazing land, and claimed it as his own. Arnoldus lived there untill he died from malaria in 1645 at the extremely high age of 86. Arnoldus Jacobsz. DeVrient is still seen as a national hero in the eyes of many Guffingfordians to this day.
