Asgard Shipyard

Asgard (translated from the Riikan Iu-myaka) is the primary shipyard complex of Kajal Mars

Overview

Asgard Shipyard is a sprawling complex in a geosynchronous orbit over Kajal Mars. Initially established as a base of operations for the limited mining assets present at the time, the Aesir class starbase was fitted with an Interleaved Plasma Array, which is still operational today and known colloquially as "the mining array." The array was originally capable of striking at a large majority of the Martian surface, however, it has only been fired three times. Seeking to minimize any disturbances to nearby nations, the initial test firing unwittingly struck an Eniqcir terraforming station, incurring minimal damage (the array was fired to test targetting accuracy, and thusly, was set to approximately 1/100th output). The two other instances of the weapon firing were during the Separatist War, where Imperialist forces destroyed much of the Capitol region with the array, and during Operation: Roundhammer, in which the Array attempted to strike at the fortress at Angoron. The complex also integrates a LIREL class Master System AI (CLIRELxx5), who manages station functions and has as of yet not formally made contact with similar intelligences within Martian networks.

Current Status

After the construction of the Kitharmani Orbital Elevator, Asgard was moved into geosynchronous orbit, and linked with the smaller Vanir class starbase serving as the elevator's anchor. While the mining array has been maintained and is likely still functional, the shipyard complex that was initially attached to Asgard, and later constructed around the station, has become so large that the Array is largely unable to acquire a target. At current the reactivation of several large fusion reactors within the lower starbase complex would be required to provide enough power for the array to fire.

Functions

Asgard is used primarily as a military base, and the entire shipyard complex is approximately 27 kilometers across at its widest point. At any given moment there are approximately 208 vessels of varying size within or around the complex. Asgard also sees considerable merchant traffic due to its status as the terminus of the Orbital Elevator, and is largely regarded as one of the most secure ports on Mars, due to the near-omnipresent military vessels.
