Biological

Asgarnieu uses exotic Biological Elements to cause destruction, as well as the run-of-the-mill variety.

Cholera

Symptoms include those of general GI tract upset, including profuse diarrhea. Symptoms are caused by the enterotoxins that V. cholerae produces. The main enterotoxin, known as cholera toxin, interacts with G proteins and cyclic AMP in the intestinal lining to open ion channels. As ions flow into the intestinal lumen, water follows through osmosis.

Clostridium Botulinum

Classic symptoms of botulism occur between 12-36 hours after consuming the botulinum toxin, but they can occur as early as 6 hours or as late as 10 days. Those symptoms usually include dry mouth, difficulty swallowing, slurred speech, muscle weakness, double vision, vomiting, and severe diarrhea, along with a progressive muscle paralysis. These are all symptoms of the muscle paralysis caused by the bacterial toxin. If untreated, these symptoms may progress to cause paralysis of the arms, legs, trunk, respiratory muscles, and possibly eventual death. In all cases the toxin made by C. botulinum causes illness, not the bacterium itself.

Salmonella

Used to cause Typhoid Fever in victims.

Rotavirus

Rotaviruses cause acute gastroenteritis. "Infantile diarrhea", "winter diarrhea", "stomach flu", "acute nonbacterial infectious gastroenteritis", and "acute viral gastroenteritis" are other names applied to this disease. Rotavirus gastroenteritis is a self-limiting, mild to severe disease characterized by vomiting, watery diarrhea, and low-grade fever. The infective dose is presumed to be 10-100 infectious viral particles. Because a person with rotavirus diarrhea often excretes large numbers of virus (108-1010 infectious particles/ml of feces), infection doses can be readily acquired through contaminated hands, objects, or utensils. Asymptomatic rotavirus excretion has been well documented and may play a role in perpetuating endemic disease. The virus infects enterocytes of the villi of the small intestine, leading to structural changes of the epithelium and diarrhea.

Giardiasis

Symptoms include loss of appetite, lethargy, explosive diarrhea, loose or watery stool, stomach cramps, upset stomach, bloating, and flatulence. Symptoms typically begin 1-2 weeks after infection and may wane and reappear cyclically. Symptoms are caused largely by the thick coating of Giardia organisms coating the inside of the small intestine and blocking nutrient absorption. Most people are asymptomatic; only about a third of infected people exhibit symptoms.

Anthrax

Respiratory infection initially presents with cold or flu-like symptoms for several days, followed by severe (and often fatal) respiratory collapse. If not treated soon after exposure, before symptoms appear, inhalation anthrax is highly fatal, with near 100% mortality. A lethal dose of anthrax is reported to result from inhalation of 10,000-20,000 spores.

Smallpox

Infection in the natural disease will be via the lungs. The incubation period to obvious disease is around 12 days. In the initial growth phase the virus seems to move from cell to cell, but around the 12th day, lysis of many infected cells occurs and the virus will be found in the bloodstream in large numbers. The initial or prodromal symptoms are essentially similar to other viral diseases such as influenza and the common cold—fevers, muscle pain, stomach aches, etc. The digestive tract is commonly involved, leading to vomiting. Most cases will be prostrated. Smallpox virus preferentially attacks skin cells and by days 12–15, smallpox infection becomes obvious. The attack on skin cells causes the characteristic pimples associated with the disease. The pimples tend to erupt first in the mouth, then the arms and the hands, and later the rest of the body. At that point the pimples, called macules, should still be fairly small. This is the stage at which the victim is most contagious.

Ricin

Long term organ damage is likely in survivors. In small doses, such as the typical dose contained in a measure of castor oil, ricin causes digestive tract cramps. Ingested in larger doses, ricin causes severe diarrhea and victims can die of shock.

Destroys crops.

Motumba Virus

99% Mortality rate. Natural mutation of the Ebola virus.

These Viruses are Genetically modified and are produced only by Asgarnieu, and are used exclusively by Asgarnieu.

Virus 409

Adenovirus, affects respiratory organs and funcitons. 81.99% mortality rate.

Virus 876-L

Arenavirus, creates symptoms similar to Lassa Fever, but is untreatable. 97.3% mortality rate.

Virus C44-Re

Retrovirus, causes Acute Degenerative Brain Disorder that kills within 24 hours. 100% mortality rate.

Virus 293

Rhabdovirus, causes Rabies-like Hydrophobia, and is untreatable. Symptoms dissapear within 96 hours, subjects normally live 24. 86.214% mortality rate. Untreatable, however IV water and nutrients can allow subject to survive.

Virus 12/335-SmMD

Togavirus, causes Encephalitis and Dengue-like symptoms. 98.97% mortality rate. Treatable with antibiotics.

Other

Radon Bomb

Asgarnieu is the only nation using the Radon Bomb. The Radon Bomb is made in large, secure storage facilities, and consists of a large glass case. Inside the case is large amounts of Radium (Ra). As the Radium decays, it emits Radon (Rn). It is aged for 10 years, and is then moved to an empty case. All cases are used and re-used before deployment. If they are used in war (and they have been...), they are wrapped in a safety casing. This prevents atmospheric pressure from shattering the thin glass before it is dropped. As the bomb reaches 1,525 feet, the protective casing falls off. The glass case filled with Radon hits the ground, and shatters. The Radon is then spread. Few, if any immediate casualites are produced, but the long-term effects are devastating, and certainly lethal.

Cobalt Bomb

Asgarnieu has, in its possession, a large number of bombs and missiles equipped with the CBW-82 Warhead. The warhead features a massive amount of loose powered Cobalt-60, a radioisotope of the element Cobalt. One gram of cobalt-60 contains approximately 50 curies (1.85 terabecquerels) of radioactivity. Held at close range, this amount of cobalt-60 would irradiate a person with approximately 0.5 gray of ionizing radiation per minute (also 0.5 sievert per minute, since for this type of ionizing radiation on a whole body, the gray and sievert values are roughly equivalent). A full body dose of approximately 3-4 sieverts will kill 50% of the population in 30 days, and could be accumulated in just a few minutes of exposure to a gram of cobalt-60. The bomb or missile is meant to be detonated at about 500 feet above a largely populated area, thus dispersing the radioactive material like snow. Due to Cobalt-60's relatively short half-life of 5.27 years, it makes it ideal for eliminating enitre populations without completely destroying every structure for miles.

Californium Bomb

Asgarnieu has created (and has the power and funds to create more) 8 Californium-251 bombs. Californium-251 is famous for having a very small critical mass, high lethality, and short period of toxic environmental irradiation relative to radioactive elements commonly used for radiation explosive weaponry. The weapon would be detonated 1,000 feet above a target area for maximum dispersal and would shower an entire area with extremely lethal Californium-251 particles, releasing free nutrons, and causing mass death without completely destroying structures of strategic importance. Some view the Californium, Radon and Cobalt bombs as highly inhumane, but that has not stopped the military from producing them.

Silicon Bombs

Asgarnieu has also created several Silicon-32 bombs to supplement its existing WMD arsenal. It has similar properties to the Californium Bomb above. Si³² has a half-life of 160 years.
