Athar is a medium but fairly busy region located in a commercial Mecca somewhere between Earth and Jupiter. This does not necessarily mean that it is located on the planet Mars, although its land is lit by two moons. Set in a kind of alternate reality, Athar is located primarily on islands in a water-based sea; on the main subcontinent the only nations are Czardas, Ouranberg, and Dionica. The region is currently a haven for well-known Generalites, but is still looking for members. If anyone wants to join, all one must to do is move to the region. Its aim is to become a haven in the turbulent sea of NationStates. This region is future-tech/fantasy-based; however, anyone at all can come. This page will be updated regularly.

A brief history of Athar

In-game

Athar was created by nations leaving the region of Cosmos, which had become inactive following the closure of its regional forum. Czardas, Neo Kervoskia, and Dionica were the founding members of the region; they were later joined by a fourth member, Ouranberg, who was elected regional delegate. Athar is currently in an alliance with the regions Atheist Haven, Loamhedge and 0 Fascist Tolerance. On the evening of September 9, 2005, due to recruitment and the creation of the alliance, Athar's population exploded; three new members joined virtually within moments of each other. Beginning in late November, the region experienced another population explosion. This was marked by the arrival of Tribes. Later the South Islands and, after many telegrams, H N Fiddlebottoms joined. Others have flooded into the region and the forum is extemely lively. The forum contains its own harem, managed by Tribes, and an all-expenses paid bar. The government of Athar is an oligarchy managed by Czardas Ruler of the Multiverse. There are ministers for every imaginable purpose and there is a single political party, recently founded, the Atharian Libertine Party.

Historical

The first nation in Athar was the Commonwealth of Czardas (today the Concordance), created around 1300 when it was granted independence from France after a long civil war. Around the same time, a Greco-Germanic colony on the northeastern coast called Dionica sought independence, which was granted several years later; after an alliance between these two nations was established, the Duchy of Ouranberg, founded originally by Germanic tribes who had settled down east of Czardas, finally emerged as a strong power and sought an alliance with Czardas and Dionica. The three nations branched apart in the later 1800s, but in recent years have come back into an alliance.

No one actually knows very much about how Neo Kervoskia actually came to Athar, or if it even exists; however, the general consensus is that it is there and has always been. Likewise, the dairy-producing nation of Milk yogurt and cheese also appears to have been created around the same time, and nobody is quite sure where in Athar it's located.
