Overview

The Athens Invaders are apart of the PopularFreedom Rugby League and play their games in the city of Athens, PopularFreedom at Invasion Stadium.

History

In 1983 the Athens Invaders rugby franchise was formed in conjunction with the other seven teams of the league.

The team since the onset of their existence has struggled for success however has had a few highlights. The most noteable achievements of the Athens Invaders includes:

  • In 1990, they made their first appearance in the PRL Championship though they were slaughtered by the Stanislav Lions 53-3 which at that time was a record for the lowest amount of points scored in a PRL championship final.
  • In 1995 they achieved greatness by winning their only PRL Championship to date with a controversial 24-21 win over the Stanislav Lions.
  • In 1996 they made it to the PRL championship final where they were dominated by the Stanislav Lions who defeated them 35-25.
