The Empire of Aurono is a country occupying a large land mass on the continent (region) of Sudeki. Over time, several other nations have settled in Sudeki.

History
After World War I, American soldiers returning from Europe brought with them the spanish flu, which rapidly deteriorated the health situation in the United States. The desease rapidly spred westwards, breaking away the integrity and powrr of the americna states. In Europe, Nazi Germany rose as a major power, further threatening the american society. Soon, German Zeppelins and fighter jets were patrolling the skies above the atlantic and only the brave deeds of the American Home Guard held them at bay. The American states broke up into competing territories. Air piracy was becoming common. But by the 1930's there was another problem arising: Imperial Japan began expanding over the pacific. Without the US to check their expansion, they began to conquer first China, then Southeast Asia, moving deeply into India, then Australia. Finally, they moved into the mainland United States. Unit 731 had succesfuly developed a vaccine against the spanish flu (at the expense of hundreds of POWs in China), which allowed them to keep safe from the desease and promise those who joined them, safety. Japan thus first seized the Kingdom of Hawaii (former American state of Hawaii), then used the infrastructure of its ally Mexico, to launch an invasion of the United States by ground from the South, with air and naval support from the East, landing in Oregon, Washington and California, quickly seizing the entire East Coast, up to the eastern borders of [[]] (former American state Utah), which later became Kotaka under the influx of asian culture. From the Aleutians, the Japanese also launched an invasion of Alaska, under control of White Russia at that time. The new Japanese colony in USA was called "Sudeki", derived from the Japanese word "suteki", which means "wonderful", "Wonderful land" often being implied in names given to America in Asia. The remains of the US Army gathered refugees from all the former United States, and, under japanese payroll and direction, established the nation of Aurono, as a territory of Emperor Hirohito. The new Imperial Government organized the country, and amercian culture was assimilated into asian culture and vice versa. Soon, Aurono was being governed not by the Japanese Emperor, but by the Prince, who was given the title Prince of Aurono (much like the title and function of Prince of Wales in Great Britain). Up untill 1970 all ruling Princes had been male. But Empress Kasumi gave birth to only one boy and one girl, Princess Yoko. Yoko, at the age of 16, fell in love with a young US Navy officer of british, indian and native american descent, Willian Khan Marshal, and the country was before a decision. As royal advisor William Jackson puts it: The Japanese Court was upon the decision of wether allowing a princess, not a prince, to rule the colony of Aurono or to allow Yoko to marry an American / Indian, allowing an American to enter the highest ranks of political system, and even the royal family, both options of which would hace required an extent of unconventionality the Tenno was not ready to. In the end, the marriage of Yoko and William was accepted after an oracle had been questioned, but under the condition that their offspring was never to rule Imperial Japan itself. Thus came the final split between the Imperial Japanese and Auronic royal families. This slightly removed the strict isolationism Aurono had clung unto towards the rest of the USA, which had reorganized, and the western world in general. Yoko gave birth to a daughter, Momoko, however, William and Momoko were both assassinated during a visit to Los Alamos, and only Momoko, who was 8 at that time, survived, because she had the flu and had to rest in bed in the palace. It has been supposed that the assassination was either carried out by the fundamentalist right-wing conservative Black Dragon Society from the Japanese motherland, which sees itself as the guardian of tradition and morality in Imperial Japan and the nation's various overseas colonies and was very unhappy with the decision to allow the couple to marry. Other speculations have included the assassination was carried out by Amercian Freedom Fighters, Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, or even by orders of Yoko's borther, Emperor Seito, who would otherwise have ruled Japan and Aurono, or by his daughter Kisuna, who had longed for the rule of Aurono for a long time. The assassin was found to be a BattleAndroid, but the backgrounds of the attack were never unveilled. This left Momoko as the official ruler of the nation, however, when she was old enough to take the throne, she had to struggle hard against the various factions and intriguants at the royal court.
Culture
Culture in Aurono is very varied. While the court and the upper classes of society are all still somewhat traditionalist and cling to the concept of a supreme japanese culture that should not be mingled with western corruption and immorality, though this has lessened a bit during William's and Momoko's reign, the lower classes of society and especially the youth celebrate a wild mix of American and Asian culture. Especially the youth has found Japanese youth culture. The expansion of the Japanese Empire into Eastern Asia and India has brought with it vast migration flows between the occupied nations. A substantial number of muslims from Indonesia, Myanmar and other southeast asian nations and Hindus from India went into the US and founded communities, while many people from the US converted to Shinto, Hinduism and Buddhism, so that Islam and Buddhism prevail as the two most significant religious groups in Aurono. There are no religious clashes, and theologists have even created a hybrid theory from japanese Zen Buddhism and Sunni Islam, called Zensunni. Recently, Christao, a hybrid theory from Christianity and Shintoism, has been introduced from Kanami, and is met with great response from the population. The religion is heavily influenced by teachings from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and is thus also likely to reach a good audience in Kotaka, where this religion is large.
While the spanish flu, even more than the war, diminished the population, population numbers have since recovered, and a rapidly growing population lives in Aurono.
Many artisans make their living by the reproduction of items from the old, purely american culture. These fake items are commonly known as "Americana" and are well-loved in the upper classes of society as relicts from another civilization. --> Memo: image here of artisan
In order for the overall Japanese territories to remain independant upon resource imports, resource consumption is forcibly scaled down in Aurono by orders of the Tenno in Japan. Perhaps, this is also done out of fear of a strong, independant Aurono that could one day challenge the motherland. Most fossile fuels and metal ores go to the Home islands, and transportation and industry is somewhat out-dated in Aurono. In Aurono, you are more likely to go by bike, horse carriage or steam trains than by the much applauded Monorail that connects the cities in Japan, Upper class members often own one of the rarely-seen 1920's-style cars and in some cities, public transport systems operate. On your way through the country, you are more likely to see almost medieval types of agriculture on the vast american plains that were incorporated into Aurono, rather than heavy industry (with exception of mining). Many industrial towns had also remained out of Japanese reach during the conquest.
Princess Momoko established the phrase "All should come together as one people!" as an official salutation in Aurono, which was later abrevated to the new national motto "Come together as one people!" to emphasize on the importance of all races and communities of Aurono – and indeed the world – to work together for a better tomorrow.
The law is enforced in Aurono – merciless and without excemption. Minor crimes usually end up with labour duty, while more serious crimes can end you up deported to remote islands or the irradiated deserts in the east. A remainder of the policies of Imperial Japan, political dissidents are seen the most serious criminals and at the slightest criminal indication, they are often imprisoned in high security prisons. The dealth penalty has luckily been abolished in Aurono. The police and prisons are actually run by the Aurono Border Defense Forces, which are officially a police force.
Geography
Aurono's main urban centers lie at the west coast. There's Aurona, the capital, located on an artificial island in the California Bay, and other cities, such as Seattle, Los Angeles and San Jose. East of that, there lies Aurono's main agricultural area, which is pretty low in technical standards. In this area, american and asian culture have intermixed a good deal. It is a very relaxed and peaceful area. If you leave Aurono to the west over the sea and don't come of course, you will reach another region, Xanadou, which is a close ally to the nations of Sudeki. Out in the east of Aurono, a vast wasteland stretches since the nuclear holocaust which occured as part of World War 2, and cowboys are just as likely to raise dinosaurs or other mutants as they are cattle. Somewhere in these wastelands lay the borderlands of Aurono, where the nation borders to the Independant Midwest, a collection of small communities and semi-nations that had been revived after the occupation of the U.S. to act as a "buffer" between the japanese occupation zone (which would later become Aurono) and the North American Territories of Germany. From here, American Freedom Fighters repeatedly strike against Auronese settlements or infiltrate the country. Border patrols of the Auronese Border Defense Forces patrol the endless deserts of red dust in jeeps and on horseback to capture infiltrators. However, they are not allowed to enter the Independant Midwest, which is considered a neutral zone. One of the few friendly nations inside this zone is Kotaka, a small community with the only notable town being Salt Lake City, former Utah and is inhabited by a strictly eco-adherent agricultural community and a group of Neo-Humans that resulted from Japan's Adamant Chrysalis Project. Southeast of that, the Aurono Self-Defense Forces have occupied and extremely fortified the small city of Los Alamos, creating an Auronese outpost pretty deep in American Freedom Fighters territory to retrieve the remains of the Manhattan Project. It was here that Momoko's parents were assassinated. If you move southeast of Los Alamos, you will stumble upon the town of Roswell. In the 1950's some years after the surrender of the USA, a UFO passed over the city, but American Freedom Fighters did not have any fighter aircraft or adequate air defense weapons to shoot it down, so nothing happened, as opposed to the RL Roswell. To the south, Aurono borders to the Mexico, which is strongly influenced by Germany and virtually a figurehead of the German Middle American Territories.
Government
The government is officially headed by the Prince or Princess, which is currently Princess Momoko Aurelia Hanasaki. While a relatively liberal nation compared to nations like Hatomia, the imperial rule is certainly not democratic. While the heir to the throne is selected by bloodline, the Ministers are elected by the Princess, though she often takes public opinion into account, which is, by far, no necessity in the Auronese political system. The Black Dragon Society also has a word to say, and, especially in the bureaucratic parts of the government, constantly influences the political schemes of Aurono. The nation has a powerful shadow government in the form of the Syndicate, which effectively links the politics of Aurono to those of Imperial Japan. Many Syndicate members are unhappy with the recent steps taken by the Princess, moving the nation away from its conservative and supremacist ideals.
The royal court of Aurono resides in the capital city, Aurona, also known as New San Fransisco, which has been built on an artificial island in the San Fransisco Bay area, in the ocean west of old San Fransisco, after the city had been destroyed during the StarFire Crisis.
Military

While Aurono exists under the strict obligation not to draft a military of its own, the nation operates an unofficial military force in form of the Aurono Self-Defense Forces. The armed forces are equipped only with arms that remained from World War 2, but at one time even started a nuclear arms project to show the nation's independance from the Japanese motherland. The Self-Defense forces are divided into the Border Defense Forces (army), Air Defense Forces (airforce) and Merchant Shipping Defense Forces (navy).

Traditionally, Aurono is a human supremacist state, in the face of mutants and anthropomorphs out in the east. Any non-humans were prohibited from entering the nation and were considered outlaws. The population was encouraged through propaganda and rewards to shot any non-human sentient encountered. Unit 431 established a research center on Alcatraz, now in the center of New San Fransisco, using the high security prison facilities located on the island, referred to simply as the "Zoo", in which Non-Humans were Human Supremacism is an integral part of Auronese thinking. When Princess Momoko Aurelia Hanasaki took power, she thus did not abolish it, but the research center was dissolved, just like the whole Unit was transformed into a civilian medical research society. On Alcatraz, Unit forces offered armed resistance when told to abandon their projects. Momoko then established Non-Human Habitat Zones within the nation. Each larger city has one. In these model communities, Non-Humans live side-by-side with baseline humans, carefuly watched by the transformed Unit 471. Alcatraz has since, officially, become a normal prison again, which also retains medical function for the armed forces. However it appears that something remains imprisoned on the island, propably being related to the StarFire Crisis and Kotaka's Daodan Chrysalis.
Diplomatic Relationships
As founder of Sudeki, Aurono maintains good relationship with many other nations sharing japanese culture. The nation also maintains good relationship with the Xanadouian nation Kurona and Suvadive, the UN delegate of the Middle East.
