BGM-5 Hatchet
The Hatchet cruise missile is a weapon unique to NS, designed by Phoenix Dynamix. The BGM-5 hatchet cruise missile is a supersonic, anti-ship/land cruise missile originally designed to replace the tomahawk on surface fleets. It also can be air-launched from large aircraft just like the tomahawk. The Hatchet's final attack speed is Mach 6.5 and it is powered by four PD-RX-SC4501 SCRAM jet engines and one solid-fuel booster. It's range is nearly 700 miles (600 nautical miles) which, while being about half that of the Tomahawk, is still well beyond conventional sea skimming anti-ship missiles' range, such as the harpoon). Even still, the limited range of the missile was cause to develop the slightly slower but longer ranged BGM-6 Battle Axe. Later development of the BGM-7 Super Tomahawk proved long range, subsonic cruise missiles were still needed, primarily for attacking land targets far from shore.
