Bangkok
Nation: Zwangzug
Function: object of parody
Population: high
Leader: James Ditka

The city of Bangkok is the second-largest in Zwangzug.

Like most of what were the nation's city-states, it was founded by a close-knit group of people from far off and named in honor or parody of a legendary city. It quickly expanded until it ran into the Oyster River, which separates it from bordering Merano. In a cruel coincidence, what would become the country's two largest cities were thus in uncomfortable proximity. The drive to develop a distinct identity from the older city would become a major catalyst in Bangkok's development; unfortunately, it chose to do so by entering a rapid downward spiral. Corruption and crime became bywords, and it became a nationwide laughingstock. More recently, however, aggressive urban renewal projects have eliminated some of the worst crimes. Gang rivalries are redirected towards competition in producing the most impressive "urban art", and criminals are turned into pizza deliverers. Skyscrapers tower above narrow streets: the highest buildings in the nation are found there. The area is one of the densest concentrations of Algebraic English notators (speakers), with the dialect being predominant. Nevertheless, stereotypes with varying levels of accuracy shroud the city, and it has fatalistically embraced some with no practical alternative.
