The Battle Island supports the widest range of currently available aircraft. Battle Island has room for 3,500 vehicles (these could be tanks, APCS, Humvees, etc), 5,000 cargo containers and 150 aircraft (if that is how you wished to use it.)Battle Island could house one brigade of 3,000 troops. It has 5 million square feet of space. Of this, 3.5 million square feet comes with climate control. Could help military preposition 300,000 tons of equipment, 75 million gal. of fuel and 50 million gal. of potable water. This makes it very capable of providing the logistics necessary to wage a war. It is stable enough to allow cargo craft like the C130 Hercules to operate in Sea State 6 conditions. Sea State numbers run from 0 (dead calm) to 12 (hurricane conditions). Sea State 6 is characterized by 22- to 27-knot winds, and white, foam-crested, 10-ft. waves with sea spray. Capable of transferring personnel and materiel to shore-going vessels in conditions up to and including Sea State 3.

Originally intended to be transported in modules but was changed into one massive craft that moves as a unit. Other versions used by other nations are known as the JMOB (Joint Mobile Offshore Base) and have to be moved in Modules. Battle Island is, however, more expensive to build and maintain than these other versions. Both are however, pretty flexible. They both use deisel electric engines and both versions move at 15 knots. That's fast enough to put a JMOB/Battle Island on station anywhere in the world within a month. Both can be easily dismantled and rearranged should conditions warrant it.

Uses

A key feature of the Battle Island is its ability to adjust to various types of fighting. It can be used as an airbase for heavy bombers that usually have to be launched from a land base but it can also accept civilian or other transport craft carrying troops for an amphibious landing invasion. It can also be used to house troops and/or to house POW's or enemy combatants.

Uses in Rp

The Battle Island was first used by Whittier in the Ukrainian war in early 2003(see below). For a while Whittier was the only nation to possess the Battle Island until mid to late 2003 when other nations developed their own, or bought them from Clan Smoke Jaguar. After other nations started developing their Whittier began leasing production rights to the Battle Island to nations who could not develop their own.

Support

They both use diesel electric engines and both versions move at 15 knots. That's fast enough to put a JMOB/Battle Island on station anywhere in the world within a month. Both can be easily dismantled and rearranged should conditions warrant it. The modules ride high on the water while in transit, then take on ballast to become stable, wave-resistant islands. tb_jmob3-lgairstripmodules.jpg

Developments

Whittier is currently said to be working on Battle Island II which is being designed to carry up to 2,000 aircraft. But it is reported they have run into technical difficulties.

Mobility

Battle Island uses diesel electric engines and moves 15 knots. It rides 120 feet above the waves. Each section is self propelled. Sections can move on their own or as units. JMOB, moves as independent modules and also relies on electric engines and has an average speed of 15knots. Like Battle Island, each module is self propelled, but unlike Battle Island, each module can only move on its own and not in union with other modules.

Action

Battle Island first saw action in the Ukrainian war between Osutoria Hungary and Russian Forces, when Whittier deployed it against Osutoria Hungary. The use of battle island resulted in a decisive defeat of Osutoria Hungarian forces and Osutoria Hungary's retreat from Ukraine. After this conflict, Whittier did not use it for a while, until other nations developed similar technology. Then it was deployed to several places:

  1. 2 Battle Islands were deployed to small nation that had decided to completely disarm itself. The Battle Islands were deployed when Red Soviet announced they were going to take advantage of the nation's voluntary disarmament to invade and annex it. Battle Island also saw action against Al Anbar when that nation invaded Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
  2. It was also deployed to the seas off Dr. Twist during the European crises between NATO and certain nations in eastern europe.
