Bomble

Overview

Bomble is a large nation located west of Ireland in the Atlantic Ocean. It is part of the Bomblean Isles, a collection of several smaller Islands close to Bomble inhabited by the native Pbom people.

Government

Government type is a dictatorship and is led by Christopher Buck, a relative of Bomble's founding father, Sir Jonathon Buck. Buck has led since December 17 1989 in a relatively trouble-free reign. There are no national elections, the next successor being chosen by Dictator Buck. The general public has almost no say in the running of the country - a subject of major criticism in the modern western world.

Bomble Dictatorial Advisory Board

Dictator Buck is accompanied by a horde of back-room staff. He is assisted with major decisions by the Bomble Dictatorial Advisory Board, a collection of around ten experts dedicated to helping the Dictator. The board's numbers are flexible and details surrounding it's activities are sketchy at best.

Dictatorial Assistants

In addition to the Bomble Dictatorial Advisory Board, a number of personal helpers assist Dictator Buck daily. These are unofficially known as the Dictatorial Assistants. They are in control of Dicator Buck's personal business, such as scheduling of meetings and events, tailoring, food etc.

Criticism

A major subject of criticism is the lack of human rights in Bomble. There are no voting rights and changing policy is near impossible. Dictator Buck has promised to rectify this in the near future, but progress has been painfully slow. He has always vowed that he will chose the next successor. Some argue the title of the country is incorrect and should be re-named the 'Kingdom of Bomble'. Dictator Buck has maintained his dislike for the title, 'Kingdom' and has said he has never seen himself to be a King.

Former occupiers England have threatened invasion many times from 1992, citing human rights violations. Their plan has never come to fruition due to other commitments. It is unlikely that England will ever return.

Human rights group People for People (PFP) have protested against Dictator Buck's rule since his swearing in in 1989. On January 17 2007, they began the largest protest march seen in Bomble, demanding a halt to public tortures. For three weeks, banners were erected in Capital City Square, letters were written to the government and numerous marches were seen all around the country. Dictator Buck made no official response to the protesters until February 10, calling a press conference. It turned out to be one of the most controversial ever. Simply standing at the podium and saying; "Stop bugging me and crawl back to your holes. Haven't you people got jobs to go to?". At that, he turned and left the room, leaving a stunned press contingent. From then on, the incident became known as 'the [Speedy] Gonzales incident' - referring to the speed at which the conference was over.
