Brigandia
Brigandia was created on 10 June, 2003 by five members, three of which still participate in Nationstates: Kenjamin, Izdambodia, Zenowania (now Nikornia), BBQCows and Whiplshom. The region has gone through several drastic changes, from an isolationist, to a small defender region to an imperial republic which leans more to region crashing.

History of Brigandia
The 1st Era
Brigandia was founded on the date of June 10th, 2003 according to the creation dates of Farouqland and Izdambodia on the old Nationstates forum. Five main nations started Brigandia: BBQCow, Izdambodia, Kenjamin, Whiplshom and Zenowania. By the afternoon of the region's creation, more nations would join: Noliville, Alvarez, Guitaristan, Griesbach and Farouqland. Nations would monitor their economy based on a spreadsheet that would track their overall economy. A system of competition was started to help build the economy of all nations, mainly through tackling issues. The introduction of this spreadsheet would also introduce a new calendar special to Brigandia. Every 24 hours was a 'month' so that nations could see how they were doing yearly, or every 12 days. This would prove to be uneffective and only proceed for a short period of time.
Name
BBQCows came up with the name 'Brigandia', which has no meaning to it.
Politics - The Group of Five
From the creation of Brigandia on June 10, 2003, the five founding fathers ran the entire region until the end of June. The original five were Izdambodia, Kenjamin (now ceased to exist), Zenowania (now Nikornia, BBQCows [[now ceased to exist) and Whiplshom. Izdambodia, its founder, led the group to a very important start. One of the first things that the Group of Five developed was an economic system within the region. It is important to note that during this time the region was very much isolated from the rest of the Nationstates world, hench the economic system would only work within the region and no where else. This economic system was very simple, consisting of a spreadsheet and it used MCI scales to rate a nation's economy. Other nations would have joined later in this economic system. The second thing that the Group of Five established were laws within the region. Noliville created the first law pertaining to voting on June 19, 2003 and that would provide a basis for more laws and a format in which to write laws.
UN Delegation
Izdambodia was also the first UN delegate of Brigandia, holding onto office for only 1-2 weeks until Zenowania was favoured to help direct the region. Towards the end of June though, Zenowania would prove to be ineffective for their lack of response to important UN resolutions. He would be replaced by Alvarez over the summer of 2003 and the disbandment of the Group of Five. Alvarez would be one of Brigandia's longest serving UN delegates.
Izdambodia - Being the founder of the region, he was the first to be elected UN Delegate.
Zenowania - Zenowania, current-day Nikornia would be the first elected UN Delegate of Brigandia. His lack of participation as UN Delegate would force the region to vote him out.
Alvarez - Would also be a delegate over the summer of 2004, acting as Brigandia's longest standing UN Delegate
Limited records have been kept of UN Delegates in office.
The Gadz War
The Gadz War was sparked by the nation of Gadz when he sent a telegram to Izdambodia, inviting him to join the region La Vida Loca. Izdambodia viewed this as an attack to Brigandian sovereignty and declared war on the nation. The Group of Five joined in a coalition against Gadz and the region. The coalition would not last long as Gadz would pass away during the 1st Dark Age, right after the Group of Five disbanded. There were no real initiatives from the Group of Five to defeat Gadz.
Population
At the height of this age, Brigandia would top twelve nations according to available records. Those included:
Alvarez, BBQCOW, Farouqland ,Griesbach, Guitistan, Izdambodia, Kenjamin, Moresia, Noliville, Rubiia, Whiplshom, and Zenowania.
Only four of the above twelve nations would still be in existence to this day or in another alias.
The Downfall of the 1st Era
No discussions or moves were made to advance the region nor were there any attempts to create an army or apply any sort of military-based roleplaying during this time. The Group of Five slowly disbanded over the summer of 2003, ending the very first era of Brigandia. During the time inbetween the first ane second era, nothing extreme happened in the region and was almost isolated by the Nationstates world.
The 1st Dark Age
There were almost no records to indicate what had happened during the first dark age, ranging from the end of June 2003 up until the beginning of October 2003. It is believed that only Farouqland and Griesbach would have been the only active members of a non-existent government. Farouqland served as the UN delegate during this time, only to be succeeded by Alvarez soon after the Post-Creation Era began.
Post-Creation Era
Politics - Brigandia Security Council and General Assembly
Attempts to bring back the former Group of Five and other former nations into Brigandia would prove successful for the month of October 2003. Another short-lived era, a group of twelve would be common within the region. With the former Group of Five back in power, they handed their powers to a new Security Council and a General Assembly. With the exception of Nikornia (former Zenowania), all original members of the Group of Five reunited to establish a new government in Brigandia.
A new group of five emerged to take over the leadership role. The new group included: Goldfish Addicts (former Guitaristan), Izdambodia, Whiplshom, BBQ Death (former BBQ Cow, and Farouqland. One of the first errands that the new group had was to establish a constitution within the region. Prior to the promulgation of the 1st Constitution of Brigandia, the new group established the BN Security Council & General Assembly, a predecessor of the Constitution. On October 7, 2003, a consensus was made to pass the 1st Constitution of Brigandia. This would itself be a predecessor for future laws and new constitutions.
The first Constitution of Brigandia did not guarantee the rights of each nation, but rather outlined its parliament and the functions of the government. One of its most controversial articles within the constitution was 1.2.3 Veto which outlined that,
As long as one of the permanent members of the BN Security Council do not agree with any decision made by the General Assembly and/or Security Council, an automatic veto is made and the decision must be re-evaluated.
This would be later changed by the major amendment of January 9, 2004.
The main government was divided up into two sections, the BN Security Council and the General Assembly. The BN Security Council contained two permanent members with the highest population and economy. The BN Security Council would choose four members to be in the General Assembly. The BN Security Council had ultimate control over the region and Izdambodia would have no control over the region. They had the power to veto any decision made by the General Assembly and had unchallenged power within the region itself. The General Assembly consisted of four nations, two of which would also be permanent (unless the Security Council decided to oust them) and the other two would have alternating terms in office. Their roles were limited to major Wars, decisions regarding acts and appeals made by any nation, banning nations and amendments to the Constitution. From October 7, 2003 to January 5, 2004, the permanent members of the Security Council were Farouqland and Griesbach and the four nations in the General Assembly were enjamin, Izdambodia, Alvarez and Whiplshom.
During the rule of the BN Security Council and the General Assembly, they only passed two other acts and amended the 1st Constitution of Brigandia. The first act, the Amendment Act, was one of a kind. It outlined the processes needed to amend any law and the 1st Constitution of Brigandia relied on the outlines in the Amendment Act. No other constitution in the Nationstates world has an act which rules a constitution. The second act, the Military Act, outlined military size limitations and issues related to god-modding.
One of the biggest issues that Brigandia as a whole had to deal with was the ejection of Kenjamin's multiple puppets. It was widely criticized by BBQCow, Whiplshom, Farouqland and Goldfish Addicts that Kenjamin was using multiple puppets to control who would be the UN Delegate. Although Kenjamin did not endorse himself as UN Delegate with his puppets, he had the upper hand in determining who the UN Delegate would be in Brigandia. Because Kenjamin had violated official Nationstates rules, BBQCow, Whiplshom, Farouqland and Goldfish Addicts were able to convince Izdambodia to eject Kenjamin's puppets. This violated the BN Constitution, but the Security Council and General Assembly had already started to fall by the time of the crisis. Kenjamin and his puppets Kenjaminsunjamin, Hamminjammin and Jamminhammin were ousted from Brigandia, later stripped of their UN status by the actions of Rich Freedom Fighters (now Sameeria).
Over the winter of 2003 and the beginning of 2004, Izdambodia attempted to revive the BN Security Council and General Assembly. On January 5, 2004, the delegates of Izdambodia (represented by Patarnia), Whiplshom, Razn, Farouqland, BBQDeath and Goldfish Addicts all passed the Major Amendment of the 1st Constitution of Brigandia.
2.1.1 The Major Amendment - Jan. 15th, 2004
The General Assembly will consist of 3 seperate nations (not including multiple nations) and will be selected based on reasonable judgement and decisions by the BN Security Council. They will be elected by the nations in Brigandia unless there is still vacancy 1 week after the election; they will be appointed by the BN Security Council for that month.
The BN Security Council will consist of 2 main nations which will have power to appeal and make final decisions on all laws and the Constitution unless voted down by the majority of Brigandia. They must be in the UN.
1.2.2 Appointment and 1.2.3 Veto was deleted.
1.2.4 Vote of No Confidence changed to 1.2.2
A vote of no confidence can be held towards any of the 2 permanent nations of the Security Council. All nations must hold a majority and the other permanent nation must agree to have the nation step down. After this process, a new nation will be elected based on economic status, population, tax rate and an agreement of 50% or more of the total nations.

1.4 Elections
1.4.1 Security Council
All Security Council members are permanent unless there's a vote of no confidence.
1.4.2. General Assembly
An election of the General Assembly shall be called every month.
The Major Amendment was promulgated on January 15, 2004 and would be one of the last attempts at bringing back the Council. One more attempt was made to revive the Council. Kenjamin replaced Griesbach as the new permanent member in the Security Council while Farouqland still attained his position and an interim General Assembly was selected by the BN Security Council. Between January 15 to 25, 2004, temporary portfolios were handed out to the interim General Assembly. BBQDeath was named minister of defense, Whiplshom, minister of foreign affairs and Canucksrule had no specific portfolio. Elections were planned for January 26 to February 1, 2004, but never happened.
UN Delegation
During the Post-Creation Era, it is believed that there were many UN Delegates who served in Brigandia. There are no records that contain all the UN Delegates served.
Alvarez - Alvarez would have served for a small period of time during the Post-Creation Era, continuing his reign from the 1st Era right to the beginning of the Post-Creation Era.
Goldfish Addicts - This nation was thought to have bribed Whiplshom in order to have the most endorsements to become UN Delegate. His controverial reign was marked when he voted for an UN issue one day before he was replaced by another UN Delegate.
Whiplshom - Believed to have been a UN Delegate at one point in time.
The Brigandian Forum
A new forum was established on October 9, 2003 to help all nations communicate better. With the establishment of the forum also came the revival of the spreadsheet from the 1st Era, new bank proposals, military information and a new map of Brigandia. The map of Brigandia caused the most controversial and important debate during the Post-Creation Era with the exception of the Kenjamin Crisis. The forum was shortlived, with records lasting only up until October 30, 2003 because of a database error on the forum. Further records uncovered showed that Izdambodia attempted to revive the forums before the Major Amendment of the 1st Constitution of Brigandia, but the forums finally closed January 2, 2004.
Population
The population of Brigandia hit a new high of 14 nations during this time period. Only 10 nations remained by the end of the Post-Creation Era:
A wolrd non-existing, Alvarez, BBQDeath, Canucksrule, Farouqland, Goldfish Addicts, Kenjamin, Nikornia, Patarnia, Razn, Rich Freedom Fighters, and Whiplshom.
Downfall of the Post-Creation Era
By the end of January 2004, most of the nations had disbanded and moved on to other regions. Razn moved to The Fjords of Waffle and resided there until the Pellagradian Age. Griesbach joined the new Sameerean Commonwealth established by Sameeria or Rich Freedom Fighters, while the rest remained to isolation or ceased to exist. Izdambodia renounced his position and went to The Pacific Army, and returned only once during the Pellegradian era to establish Brigandia's first military .
The Pellegradian Era
This era, from about January 11 to February 4, 2004, was marked by the tensions between Brigandia and the Sameerean Commonwealth. One of the main highlights of this era was the invasion of The Chaos Wastes, former, the creation of Fort Pellagrad and the successful defense missions at TAM Hell on Earth and The Imperial Order of Frith.
The Chaos Wastes
The Chaos Wastes invasion marked the very beginnings of the Pellegradian era. The Sameerean Commonwealth's successful invasion in the region prompted Izdambodia to take matters into its own hands. The invasion, led by Griesbach was stopped by moderator intervention approximately three to four days after the invasion. Izdambodia formed a coalition with the natives Judge black and Monkey Splang to help keep peace during this time. Telegrams sent to The Mighty Star People to come back as UN delegate failed after he was ejected from the region. The region of The Chaos Wastes no longer exists today, but the original UN delegate The Mighty Star People still exists today and resides in the region of The Empires of Caged Monkeys.
Establishment of Fort Pellagrad
After the Chaos Wastes invasion, the Sameerean Commonwealth had already partnered up with the North Star Empire and the Rossdesian Commonwealth to create the new Sameerean Commonwealth Alliance. To counterattack this new and growing alliance, Izdambodia called upon BBQCow to help out. BBQCow created The Global Defender as its new nation and established the region of Fort Pellagrad. This would be Brigandia's first military headquarters outside of its own region. The Global Defender and Izdambodia both established a new program to help out other regions by warning them ahead of time of attacks. To fully strengthen the new military established by Izdambodia, a recruitment drive was on to temporarily seek out volunteers to help in the cause. In total, a possible military number of up to 15 would be able to help out Brigandia. The list included:
azninvazn, Miss Obvious, Razn, Izdambodia, The Global Defender, BBQDeath, EvanCrusher, Soulsaber, Stardoesntcarestar, Keyta, Strawberry angels, Korung, Rudimentia, asianinvazn, and Jarome E.
With this new army, Brigandia would be able to successfully defend two regions in which the Sameerean Commonwealth Alliance would attempt to invade.
TAM Hell on Earth
The first invasion after the chaos wastes crisis was led by the North Star Empire, under BBQ Riblets. Their attempts would have been interrupted by the new Brigandian army. A news article was published after the invasion by the region:

TAM Hell On Earth was invaded by foreigners. Expeditionary force under the banner of "Brigandia" and "Fort Pellagrad" have arrived to aid in defense under leadership of The Many Talents of Izambodia. "I hate foreigners, it's like they don't come from around here," local citizen complains.
The region published another news article one month after the invasion in March about the invasion:
War Over!!! TAM Hell On Earth Safe Again!
Today marks the official end of hostilites between the Sameerean Commonwealth and TAM Hell On Earth. Alliance leader Nar Sharra congratulates The Many Talents of Izambodia and allies for their support.
This would be one of the last invasions made by the North Star Empire, which eventually collapsed and ceased to exist. The only surviving member of that region would be BBQ Riblets who resides in another invader region, New World Empire.
The Imperial Order of Frith
On February 21, 2004, the Sameerean Commonwealth Alliance tried for another invasion. With their new allies, The Ununited Nations, they sent in troops to try and take over this former well-known region. In the end, the new Brigandian army once again defeated the alliance. There was a lot of controversy in this invasion because the former region owner accused Brigandia of invading instead of blaming it on the alliance. Regional controls were soon handed back to the original natives the next day. This would be the last invasion by the Sameerean Commonwealth Alliance.
Downfall of the Pellagradian Era
After the failure of both invasions, the Sameerean Commonwealth Alliance collapsed and both Brigandia and the Sameerean Commonwealth disbanded officially. Izdambodia moved onto 10000 Islands while the Rossdesian Commonwealth collapsed and the Ununited Nations settled down. The Global Defender and all the military volunteers would be honored and thanked by Izdambodia after the closing of Fort Pellagrad.
The 2nd Dark Age
Roughly between March and July 2004, this would be a repeat of the 1st Dark Age except Izdambodia resided and worked in 10000 Islands. The only true government established during this time was the UN delegate reign of Ice bank men.
The Golden Era
The Golden Era of Brigandia begins and ends roughly from June 2004 to October 2004. During this time period, Brigandia made new moves to advance onto the international stage of NationStates and drastically increased in population. The spike
Politics - Authoritarian Democracy
In an attempt to bring ideals from 10000 Islands and Greece to Brigandia, Izdambodia revived Brigandia and established an authoritarian democracy in Brigandia. Recruitment for a new Brigandia, this time without the help of the Group of Five or any other previous member of Brigandia. The reforms and the bureaucratic system set up by Izdambodia early in June and July 2004 would create the backbone of modern-day politics for Brigandia. Although the previous system in the Post-Creation Era worked fairly well, it still differs from modern-day Brigandian politics. One of the most important changes that was brought in to place was the ministrial departments. Before, all laws and discussions were voted by a council, but the new ministrial departments allowed each minister to make changes in their own department for the betterment of Brigandia. The UN Delegate now held the highest power in Brigandia, and Izdambodia limited his own powers. A new Constitution would outline the powers of the government, the rights of its people and would serve as the highest law in Brigandia (this was before the Ipsosumo Invasion).
The 3rd Dark Age
After the Golden Era, the population purged in Brigandia and ties with other regions slowly diminished. During this time frame, there was a major change in UN delegacy and it was the transition from a region defender to a region crasher. Pressure from within the region caused the region to both purge and rebound during the 3rd Dark Age. The declaration from an authoritarian democracy to an imperial republic was announced by Izdambodia on February 24, 2005. This change would allow more power to Izdambodia and changed the mores to adapt to the changes within Brigandia.
The Imperial Age
Imperial Republic
On March 1st, 2005, Brigandia officially became an imperial republic, under the name of the "Glorious Brigandia". The former political stance was a limited constitutional democracy, which was still under the control of the founder, Izdambodia. Although the Second Constitution of Brigandia was enacted September 19th, 2004, it was not the top law, as the Founder's Law, enacted 4 days before, still granted Izdambodia full authority over the region.
The political movement towards a more imperialistic region was started on December 25th, 2004 (from the records that are still available) by Izdambodia. One of the main motives were the attacks on the 'sovereign' Brigandia on August 24th, 2004 when the Federation of Ipsosumo launched an invasion against Brigandia, a coup d'etat attempt. Members of the federation continued to stay in Brigandia under scrutiny by UN Delegate StormTrooperTK429 and Izdambodia. This gave rise to movements that would demand more invasions and attacks against other regions that were not authorized by neither the UN Delegate or Founder. Another reason for the political movement were the international events that were happening. The invasion into DEN headquarters by 10000 Island/TITO forces prompted controversy over the role of 'defenders' or 'liberators'. The ADN was under martial law during that time and liberators seemed to act more like invaders rather than what they claimed to be.
End of Brigandia
Izdambodia has declared that as of 28 January, 2006, Brigandia has finally ended. The history of Brigandia will remain intact and serve as the only and official guide to its history. The last stronghold of the Brigandian imperial republic is the Sameerean Commonwealth. Izdambodia now resides in Canada and is the last surviving nation of the original Group of 5.
Politics
Brigandia is an imperial republic, a term often used on the United States as an imperialistic state who adopts and provides a republic to itself and its colonies. Its policies, its structure and its way of governance is still in its very early stages ever since the political transition on March 1st, 2005. What will be included will be the following:
- A Third Constitution Ratified by the Appointed Senate
- A People's Congress of Brigandia who will operate under volunteers
- A Senate (5 members) appointed March 4 including Nikornia, Charmander666, Rampang Herkage, Jerkitude and The Hippie Revolution.
- A People's Army of Brigandia
Unification
The Imperial Republic of Brigandia officially adopted the regions of Calgary and Edmonton as a part of its empire on March 2, 2005.
As of 28 January, 2006, the Unification between Calgary and Edmonton is now defunct.
