Until further notice, the Community Defence Forces have been largely frozen at the level they were when there were only two billion citizens in Sober Thought, at their twentieth wave of one hundred million population. Only the Naval Service (and troops from the other services assigned directly to it) continues to grow a small amount.

Senior appointments on the Combined Staff

There are nine Grand Marshals on the Combined Staff, of which:

  • five are from the CDF Land Service, as Chief of the Defence Staff or Deputy CDS, Chief of the Land Service, and three C staff appointments.
  • three are from the CDF Air Service, as CDS or Deputy CDS, Chief of the Air Staff and one C staff appointment.
  • one is from the CDF Naval Service, as Chief of the Naval Staff and Flag Officer Shore.

Functionally, the Combined Staff looks like:

Chief of the Defence Staff GOC Grand Marshal Deputy Chief AOC Grand Marshal Chief of the Land Staff GOC Grand Marshal Chief of the Naval Staff FO Grand Marshal Chief of the Air Staff AOC Grand Marshal C-1 Operations AOC Grand Marshal C-2 Security and Intelligence GOC Grand Marshal C-3 Personnel GOC Grand Marshal C-4 Logistics GOC Grand Marshal C-5 Civil Affairs GOC Chief Marshal.

Naval Service

The Naval Service has less strength, fewer personnel and a smaller number of senior officers. It accumulates marshals at the following rate: one Grand Marshal every 7th wave, one Chief Marshal every third wave, one Marshal every wave (starting as Chief of the Naval Staff) and four Vice Marshals every wave (starting as Deputy CNS, FO Coastal Defence Command, FO Sealift Flotilla and FO Combattant Flotilla). Thus, by the 20th wave, it has two Grand Marshals, six Chief Marshals, twenty Marshals and eighty Vice Marshals.

At the higher HQs in Capital Province are one Grand Marshal (Chief of the Naval Staff), 1 Chief Marshal (Deputy CNS), 3 Marshals, 12 Vice Marshals. A Chief Marshal seconded from the Air Service serves at these HQs as the Chief of Naval Aviation/AOC Naval Air Force, and is assisted by other deputised aviators. Naval Service HQ has at its disposal:
