Succeeding the Washington class BBGN, The CNV California (BBGN-66) is the first of four vessels in its type classfication as a Type-1 of the California Class. After making the decision to build a new (heavy) battleship, construction began and the keel was laid in 2253. With the ship being finished BBGN-66 was commissioned to the Californian Federation Navy as the California on April 17, 2256. After sea trials the ship was put into service on August 25, 2256.
