Significance

All types of livestock and several wildlife species utilize Ca'Qu grass. Quick seasonal growth of the plant provides good, early-spring forage for livestock. It is also utilized by sheep, mountain goats, elk and deer. The Arciule Antelope and Yns Caribou depend on quick and early growth of Ca'Qu grass during parts of the year. Due to widespread distribution, it plays a significant role in the diet of most Domini wildlife species as well as species throughout the IDU. A review of Yns Caribou foraging habits found fluctuations of use from moderate to excessive. Ca'Qu grass' ability to grow in rocky soils and high elevations also makes it a good food source for the Arciule Antelope.
