Caer Gawen is a city in Shieldcrest in the Resurgent Dream which serves as the historical center of the Danaan entertainment industry. Caer Gawen is so well known as the center of Danaan cinema that the Danaan film industry is sometimes colloquially referred to as "Caer Gawen." In addition to the actual filming, Caer Gawen is also home to such ancillary industries as editing, effects, props, post-production, and lighting, as well as animation.

Major theatrical releases are normally premiered in one of several major Caer Gawen cinemas, especially the Dreamstar Cinema and The Falcon's Eye. Caer Gawen is also famous for its nightlife and tourism and as the home of the Danaan Cinema Awards.

Caer Gawen is governed by an elected city council chaired by a mayor. Six of the eight councilors are elected by the residents of the city's six city council districts in a preferential single-member system comparable to the method used for the election of Members of Parliament. Another two councilors are selected at large, being elected by a system in which the people of the whole city pick from a list of eight candidates with the candidate who received the most votes and the candidate who receives the second most both becoming councillors. The mayor is elected in a preferential system similar to that in which the six councillors elected by district are choosen, with the people of the whole city replacing the people of the district.

History

Caer Gawen began its history as a fort in 1213. To meet the needs of the soldiers, an agricultural community and later a town grew up around the fort. The actual fort of Caer Gawern was largely destroyed during the Homecoming War and never rebuilt, although its ruins were excavated and turned into a musuem in 1914.

Caer Gawen was officially incorporated as a Municipality in 1816. At the time, the town only had a single post office and one constable. It served primarily as a source of supplies for the surrounding countryside, populated mostly by dairy and beef farmers. Ordinances at the time included one banning the sale of alcohol except by pharmacists and one limited the number of cattle that could be driven through town at a given time.
