Canadian Standards for Diplomatic Relations

Canadian Standards for Diplomatic Relations
Canada attempts to promote democracy by exchanging ambassadors with regions which meet certain standards of good governance. In particular, we look for regions which:
- Have a bulletin board or website which allows for communication among its members, and with outsiders.
- Have a constitution or equivalant, which defines key aspects of citizenship and government, and which is clearly adhered to in practice.
- Have effective provisions whereby members can appoint and remove members of the government.
- Have effective provisions whereby members can seek redress for grievances.
- Generally promote an atmosphere of free speech and tolerance.
