Cannadiar (Pronounced Can'add'e'ah) officially The Ancient State of Cannadiar is located west of mainland Freetopia and is the largest and oldest nation there. It has gained much of what is today Cannadiar through several wars. It is an important nation in Freetopia and today holds the position as Chief Minister.
Cannadiar was established as a unified state in the 13th century and recieved its name from the largest and most influential tribe in the area, the Cannadis. Cannadiar has an immense Information Technology industry which has been a large part of the economy since the 1970's.
Cannadiar today is a consitutional monarchy, with a multi-party democracy in which the Liberal Socialist Party hold power. Cannadiar had major colonial possesions of which is now the indepedant nation of Sweedun

History
Prehistoric Cannadiar
The island of Cannadiar originally contained thousand of tribes which lived as hunter-gatherers in small villages. As time passed and the technology of the tribes became more sophisticated, more tribes were eliminated while the more dominant ones spread their influence.
By the year 798, 16 of the most powerful tribes remained, Countless wars between thr tribes followed in which there were two victors, the 7 southern tribes were now annexed and administered by the Sevlinos tribe whereas the northern 9 tribes were claimed by the Cannadis tribe. Both tribes fought each other in the Cannadia-Sevlino Tribal War after 150 years of combat with no significant achievement, a mounting amount of casulties and severe economic damage, the Treaty of Newtown was signed resulting in the end of the war and the first establishment of Slevino and Cannadiar.
Warlord Frederick IV made the decision to create the monarchy of Cannadiar which would create hereditary rule rather than the warlords system in which the most vicious and powerful tribalman would become Warlord of the tribe. Frederick became Frederick I of Cannadiar in which he was the first monarch in the House of Cannadis.
Frederick chose the city of Breham to be the capital of his nation, stating it to be "A most marvellous and quaint city which indeed pickled my fancy on various visits to the citadel". Frederick was also responsible for introducing the modern territorial divisions in Cannadiar.
Expansion
Cannadiar experienced in the 13th - 15th century a great economic expansion in which the nations GDP trebled where the Agriculture, Construction and Mining industries flourished and together made almost a half of the countries GDP. The successes of the nation and political differences to the far-right nation of Slevino and it's Emperor caused high tensions under which the Emperor ordered that no trade should be made with the "Northern Monsters".
Tensions peaked in the late 17th century as explosives completely destroyed St Michaels Centre, a very important financial institution located in Breham. The attack was blamed on Slevinos terrorists, a claim which was refuted by Slevinos Emperor who claimed "Discrimination against the might of Slevino had caused the Northeners to point fingers at those of whom it fears".
A temporary treaty was drawn up, The Treaty of St Michael which aimed to establish a friendly bond between the two nations, the treaty was broken in the event of the invasion of Cannadiar by Slevino in 1682. Despite initial dire territorial losses and casulties, Slevinos forces managing to push Cannadia forces 2 miles away from the capital of Breham, Cannadia forces were able to repel the invasion and counterinvade and raid the capital of Roar.
The nation of Slevino swiftly surrendered on 27th August 1698, resulting in the annexation and incorporation of the Slevinos territories. Cannadiar suffered great economic injuries from the war and had more than 50 million citizens, 9 and a Half of which, were in great poverty and suffering from starvation.
Colonialism
The annihilation of Slevino resulted in wave of nationalistic pride and many Cannadia men wished to expand the 'empire' of Cannadiar to overseas. Karlos V declared the Cannadia Colonisation Pact, which would grant grand prizes for those who would discover new lands and conquer them for Cannadiar.
Many unemployed people as well as criminals and the poor looked to the sea as a way of escaping poverty and crime. The large amount of citizens travelling to the eastern sea ports resulted in the urbanisation of eastern seaports. Small villages became towns and then cities with the accelerated trade. small fishing ships and small galleys were dismembered for use in greater vessels, mighty galleons.
It was in the 18th Century when the Freetopian mainland was discovered, the place where men had sailed before in the early days and taught the Cannadia people important things such as the compass and gunpowder. Trading links were established with the new nations and a friendly bond was created.
It was in the 1860's, that new land was discovered, Mort De-Frank Fer, the captain of the exploring ship that made the discovery named the land "Sweedun" which derives from two Cannadia words; "Swelan" which means "Beautiful" and "Dunzar" which means "Land". Karlos V declared the land to be a New Colonial Province
Civil Unstability
With the new colony of Sweedun bringing in more riches and luxuries from the mainland, Cannadiar had an economic and social boom, It became a powerhouse with tremendous growth rates. There was an industrialisation of central Cannadiar and unemployment was at an all-time low of 1.4%.
In 1895 Slave I became King of Cannadiar. Slave was a controversial and loathed figure, erecting thousands of statues across the nation of himself, changing an estimated 60,000 placenames to his own name (Including the Lake of the Slaves and Slave Island) and murdering thousands of believers of the Elfset faith.
Slaves tyranny would lead, in 1897, to the Cannadia Civil War. Which led to the 1906 execution of Slave, as well as the establishment of consitutional monarchy. Cannadiar's economy once again was severely injured and this was incentive for Sweedun to declare it's independance in 1908.
Despite valiant efforts to recapture Sweedun, lack of army personnel and poor resources brought the short war to an end, resulting in the loss of the Sweedi colony.
Modern
After 1906, Cannadiar has politically, changed from a centre-right conservative government, to a centre-left socialist government, who's decision it was to progress into Anarchy. In 1967, 10 years after Anarchy transformation was started, the situation looked dire.
Anarchy was disbanded and multi-party democracy was reinstated. In recent years, there have been high tensions with Prussiatopia and it's successing nations.
