Political History

The Board of Cecrow

The Board of Cecrow was the Industrial Syndicate's ruling body, from inception until the summer of 2004. It proved its unweildiness as a form of government in the course of voting upon several issues, amongst which no clear vision was agreed upon and little attention was being given to internal security or external affairs. The Board was, as CEC Inc. would subsequently put it, "a timid lot" in general. It paid as much or more attention to the upholding of civil rights and freedoms as to economic prosperity. This was much to the chagrin of Cecrow's populace, who had accepted big business as their government for the express reason of eventually obtaining international economic fame. The Board continued to waffle on pursuing economic goals without prejudice, leading to its eventual downfall.

CEC Inc. Rises to Power

In June 2004, CEC Inc. became a member of the Board of Cecrow and its voice most adamantly in favour of change. In a period of just nine days, it had unleashed an uproar at every meeting of the Board and made enemies of virtually every other member - and hero-worshippers amongst nearly all of Cecrow's citizenry. On June 22nd, CEC Inc. simultaneously initiated a hostile takeover of several Board members. A general uprising immediately followed upon the news of this action, with demonstrations in the streets by Cecrow citizens demanding the replacement of the Board by CEC Inc. as unilateral ruler. At last, a single entity had emerged that captured their imagination with its vision and determination. They were not disappointed.

The Board was disbanded as a ruling body, and several of its representatives exiled (later to form a clique labeling itself The KoZ, or Knights of Zion). CEC Inc. completed its takeover by resurrecting the Cecrow Street Journal (CSJ) Press and initiating a new age of economic determinism.

CEC Inc. and the Rise of Cecrow

Within a matter of weeks, CEC Inc. had decimated organized crime within the Industrial Syndicate and put a permanent end to outbursts of anarchy. UN economic rankings became its sole focus at the expense of anything and everything else. Civil rights and political freedoms swiftly fell by the wayside. The environment was devastated. Religion was laughed off the IS map. The rich-poor divide became irretrievably unbridgable. Education was nonexistant. The people rejoiced.

CEC Inc. has instituted only moderate policy change during its continued reign. Education has been brought back as a means of potentially improving production, and the clamps are loosening on civil rights. Otherwise, it has set the model for corporate police states the world over in its headlong pursuit of 'totalitarian capitalism'. UN economic rankings continue to improve by leaps and bounds. The people continue to rejoice.

National Animal

The free lunch has long been considered an endangered species. In fact, many in Cecrow's science community believe this animal to be utterly extinct. There continues to be much debate over whether it still exists, leading to the oft-heard saying "there's no such thing as a free lunch".

Industrial Syndicate Member States

Early in its history the Industrial Syndicate established a series of ambassador or satellite entities, which eventually acquired recognition as nations in their own right but are still considered arms of the core Industrial Syndicate structure. Some of these (where noted) have passed into history.

  • The Industrial Syndicate of Cecrow (Wysteria): capital region of the Industrial Syndicate. Does not involve itself in regional RP activities, and remains the syndicate's 'star player' in terms of UN economic rankings. As of 2007 it began to acquire top ten status in Wysteria, a long dreamt-of goal.
  • The Black Sails of Cecrow II (The Emerald Coast): a pseudo-representative of Knights of Zion, this nation has adapted the regional pirate theme but continues to be economy-focussed. At present it faces no significant economic competition in the region.
  • The CHOAM Corporation of Cecrow III (expired; last seen in Arrakis)
  • The Unrelenting Foundries of Cecrow IV (expired; last seen in Vorlon)
  • The Industrial Spaceport of Cecrow V (expired; last seen in Alpha omega)
  • The Transnational Railroad of Cecrow VI (expired; last seen in Wysteria)
  • The Telecom Giants of Cecrow VII (expired; last seen in Nasicournia)
