Central Province is a charter member and the most populous constituent of the Community of Sober Thought. It was known as Sobriety before it federated with Pensée (now Hochelaga). Its official language is English, but there are some chartered municipalities which have given status to French or other languages.

Geography

Physical geography

The geography of central province is varied but mostly temperate, with low mountains, foothills, open plains, river valleys and forested areas all present in various degrees. In a sense, it is Sober Thought in a microcosom.

Population geography

Its capital and metropolitan city is Schweindorf, the largest city in the country with 7.8% of the national population and roughly one fifth of the provincial population. Other chartered municipalities include: Horseshoe County ~4.3%, Worthington ~2.2%, Middle Sax County ~2.1%, Sax-Caughburgh County 2.0%, Oak County 1.0%, Magnificent Falls County/Comté Beau Sault 1.0%, Sonnenberg Region 0.6%, baie Norden Bay 0.5%, havre Dormant Harbour 0.4% and Roydon 0.4%.

Economic geography

The economy of the province is fairly diversified, but manufacturing, financial services and business services are overrepresented while agriculture, forestry and fishing are underrepresented. Manufacturing is concentrated in Horseshoe County and surrounding areas, finance in Schweindorf, agriculture in the southern party of the province, and non-agricultural primary industries in the northern regions.

Shared jurisdictions

Civil defence

The Central Province Civil Guard is largest and most diverse in the country, and it contributes a complete division (less aviation component provided by the regular air force) to the field army for national defence. So while formally the method of promotion is identical to that of other Civil Guards, the provincial Civil Defence Minister's advice for the selection marshals (including the vice marshal commanding the 9 series division of armoured infantry) is rarely ignored by the Community Defence Forces.

The provincial and federal service configurations of the Civil Guard units on the first and subsequent population waves are virtually identical: the 1st CP Brigade (Light Infantry), the Divisional Reserve Demi-Brigade and the Engineering Demi-Brigade of the 6th Light Infantry Division; the 2nd CP Brigade (Mountain) to the 7th Mountain Infantry Division; the 3rd CP Brigade (Armoured), 4th (Armoured Infantry), 5th (Motorised Infantry), 6th (Artillery), Divisional Reserve Demi-Brigade, Engineering Demi-Brigade and Logistics Demi-Brigade of the 9th Armoured Infantry Division. Among them are:

Armoured units

  • Horseshoe Dragoons, armoured infantry, 9 series
  • Magnificent Dragoons, tracked APC armoured infantry, 9 series
  • Central Mounted Infantry, tracked or wheeled APC armoured infantry, 9 series
  • Schweindorf Mounted Rifles, wheeled APC armoured infantry, 9 series

  • Central Rangers, mountain infantry, 7 series
  • Schweindorf Fusiliers, light infantry, 6 series
  • Worthington Light Infantry, 6 series
  • Central Rifles, light infantry, 6 series

Artillery units

  • Central Artillery Regiment (one battalion per wave each of armoured anti-tank, armoured rocket air defence, armoured gun air defence, tracked armoured, wheeled armoured and towed armoured artillery), 9 series

Engineering units (two combat, two civil and two maintenance engineering battalions each wave)

  • Central Engineers (five battalions per wave: two in 6 series divisions, one in 7 series and three in 9 series)
  • Schweindorf Engineers (one battalion per wave in 9 series divisions, alternating in each engineering sub-branch)

  • Central Health Regiment
  • Central Transport Regiment
  • Central Quartermaster Regiment (two battalions per wave)
  • Central Security Battalion (one battalion per wave, one company each of Central Scouts, Central Military Police, Central Intelligence)

Land transportation

In part because of its large geographical size and per capita wealthier residents, Central Province proportionately tends to have more roads, more cars, more drivers and more driving headaches than most provinces.

Exclusive jurisdictions

Police

Central Province has a large, but not disproportionately large, provincial police force with several geographic area commands. Schweindorf consists of its own area, while each chartered city has its own district of which there are twice as many in unchartered regions of the province.

Civil law

Because social liberalism and minority acceptance are higher here, even among political conservatives, civil law tends to be progressive and trailblazing in relation to other provinces.
