The United Union of Central Sciacca is a huge, safe nation, notable for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 865 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Education. The average income tax rate is 100%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Beef-Based Agriculture, Gambling, and Information Technology industries.
Religious organizations are being forced to leave the country or pay income taxes like everybody else, small businesses are gobbled up almost daily by corporate giants, citizens are regularly arrested in queues for 'loitering', and Animal Liberationists are regularly jailed. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Central Sciacca's national animal is the lion, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the dollar.
