Tşąrls Lorəns was born and raised in the small city of Lala on Wąkemişu, where he picked up many of his authoritarian, nationalist sentiments from the heavily conservative district. His parents first moved to the planet to conduct cultural studies of the insectoid species and eventually decided to make a permanent home there, having grown to appreciate the efficient, no-frills lifestyle of the than. The Than star’s radiation was a great burden to Tşąrls and his family, and gave young Tşąrls an early appreciation for and resentment of forces beyond his control.

By 311, Tşąrls Lorəns was already active in politics, participating in rallies for the Nationalist Collectivization Party. In 312 he began volunteering for the party, work he continued until he joined the Nąbul in 314. Tşąrls served in the Wąkemişu reserves, attaining the rank of mątsut before leaving in 317 to pursue a career in law. After completing his education in 319, Tşąrls served as a prosecuting attorney for four years, during which he married his childhood sweetheart Cąrĭsą Rods and fathered their son, Naŧăn. Lorəns ran for and won election to the provincial governorship in 323. He served less than one term before making a bid for the Triumvirate, which he narrowly won, but his isolationist policies cost him the next election to moderate candidate Tenĭn Kĭsnąş. After his statewide defeat, Lorəns returned to working as an attorney. He took advantage of his hometown’s open seat on the District Council in 329, and was elected with overwhelming support. Tşąrls Lorəns lives with his family in Lala.

Physical description

Tşąrls Lorəns is 187 centimeters in height, tall for a human. His skin color is naturally dark, and the environment of Wąkemişu has made it even darker. He is of average build, meticulous about cleanliness and grooming. Tşąrls’ pupils and retina are indistinguishable, both deep black. He has a full head of business-style hair, once black in color but now lightening in streaks to aged silver. Tşąrls makes a regular practice of disguising his emotions behind a stony facade, but when aroused he can be very intimidating.

Personality and politics

Tşąrls Lorəns is smart and self-assured. He can speak English fairly well, but rarely chooses to, even in the company of non-Xanthalians. Lorəns is known for being unreceptive to the ideas of others and intolerant of foreign influence. He is also a practicing Sunni Muslim.

Lorəns is a steadfast supporter of Xanthalian isolation, nationalism, and authoritarian government, tending slightly to the left in matters of economics. He is a social conservative, and believes that national unity should be achieved though homogeneity. Lorəns is a calculating and charismatic politician, gifted in his persuasive abilities. To his party, he is a great asset. To his opposition, Tşąrls Lorəns represents the face of evil.
