The Cheka are Dyelli Beybi's Intelligence force, and as possibly the most active Intelligence force in The Federated Klatchian Coast. Indeed it is often said that the Cheka, particularly it's leader, Felix Dzerzhinsky has more influence over the foreign affairs of the State than does the legitimately elected Government.

Cheka Agents can be found working within the military, where the distinctive sky blue trimming on their uniforms and similarly coloured rank insignia, immediately picks them out from the regular soldiers. The vast majority of agents though, are present in less visible positions, whether in undercover work or in offices.

The Cheka is a majority female organisation, mostly due to the hierachy's desire to fill the ranks with young attractive women (who they regard as the ideal demographic for intelligence collection).

History

The Cheka was founded during the Dyelli Beybian Civil War by Otto Himmler and Felix Dzerzhinsky, with the original aim of hunting down and exterminating the nobility of Dyelli Beybi. During this period several Commisaars, including Zara Alwood rose to prominence. By the end of the war, the nobility were largely dead, in exile or assimilated into the Cheka, including the daughter of the late Tzar, Alexia ap Apam

Since then, the Cheka expanded markedly, with it's role expanding to cover just about all intelligence related tasks, from Serious Crime to watching for potential Invasions. However, as years passed the power of the organisation became excessive, and under the control of Tania Fradkov it took a major role in the overthrow of the Republican Government and appointment of Pierre Soult as Emperor of Dyelli Beybi.

However, this victory was short lived, and under the new Constitutional Monarchy, the Cheka has found itself the subject of heavy government scrutiny and regulation.

Cheka Headquarters (Benjia House)

Benjia House is a Central Building in Cyro. Contrary to popular belief though, it is much more than the nerve centre of the Cheka. It is also the headquarters of the Central Intelligence Division (CID).

The Cheka portion of Benjia House is around 100 metres below street level inside a concrete bunker. It is said, that the actual offices themselves, are largely open plan and very modern, with only the most senior Commisaars having private offices. It is also rumoured that the Cheka have control of a very large Artificial Intelligence, one of only three in Klatch, which is put to the task of code breaking.

Organisation

The Cheka is officially classified as a branch of the Police Force, organised into 7 disticnt Sub-Divisions, each with it's own purpose;

CSD-1 Diplomacy and Foreign Dignitaries of Extreme Political Sensitivity
CSD-2 Military Liason
CSD-3 Military Supervision
CSD-4 Serious Crime
CSD-5 Internal Security Issues
CSD-6 External Security Issues
CSD-7 Supervision of Internal Undemocratic Elements

CSD-2 and CSD-3 are frequently confused, however, they do serve very different functions. CSD-2 is the smallest of the 7 Sub-Divisions, and is tasked with accompanying members of the Police and Military on highly 'Politically Sensitive' missions. CSD-3 is responsible for bringing accurate Intelligence to the military in the Field as well as to ensure no 'Undemocratic Elements' come into being within the military. As such it is among the larger Sub-Divisions.

Ranks

Officially all Cheka agents are referred to as 'Commisaar', however, they all carry a Police rank along with the title. The top rank is that of Chief Constable, held by Felix Dzerzhinsky. Each Sub-Division is led by a Deputy Chief Constable, who is assisted by a variable number of Assistant Chief Constables. Below this (in descending order) are the ranks of Chief Superintendent, Superintendent, Chief Inspector, Inspector, Police Sergeant and finally Constable

Notable Cheka Officers

Some Cheka Officers are more important than others. That does not necessarily mean though, that they are as well known among intelligence circles as others. The following Cheka Officers have achieved distinction for one reason or another;

Felix Dzerzhinsky Chief Constable No Sub-Division
Sidney Reilly Deputy Chief Constable CSD-3
Tania Fradkov Assistant Chief Constable CSD-1
Vlademir Dzerzhinsky Chief Superintendent CSD-1
Richard Quentin Chief Superintendent CSD-5
Chlarissa Dashwood Chief Inspector CSD-2
Alexia Baldwin Inspector CSD-4
Zara Alwood Inspector CSD-1
